Turbines that are installed of the coast, transforming the worlds natural currents into a source of energy. Always thought it was a rather cool method of electricity production :)

Trace, this is super cool! They're sustainable, economically feasable biofuel (from algae) harvesting plants and so much more! Jonathan Trent: Energy from floating algae pods (Ted Talk)

Did anyone notice, how all the cool new technologies presented lately either utilise organisms/natural materials or mimic/replicate them?

Covering soil around plants with thick layer of cut grass, hay, leaves, or even carton.
What it does:

1. covers ground surface protecting it from air flows and sun, which burn and dry micro-life leaving ground "empty".

2. under is constantly condensates moisture from air even in dry and sunny days, keeping ground wet and plants and micro-organisms fed.

3. prevents weeds from growing - they don't sprout without sunlight.

4. the layer gradually decomposes adding to humus.

Due to economic restraints, a need for land space and its required long term dependency on all its products, Cuba has been a place where, over the last few years, more than a few interesting developments in agriculture have happened. I would highly suggest doing some research in it :]

This is great. We've reached a point where we can take control of the whole life-cycle in an area and use it to our advantage. This puts us just a little bit closer to self sustaining space craft, and me just a little bit closer to getting off this rock.

The fly larvae that they bag up are all dried. It looks more like rice then it does fly larvae.

Or maybe you should not have been eating at the same time the fly larvae were processing waste... though I guess that would be all the time. -- Trace

You know, a lot of the presenters on these shows I really don't like too much. But I like Trace. He has personality.
