Using linux for about 2 weeks now with hyprland wm and it literally boosted my productivity way better than that bloated windows system. Am never gonna look back. And nice haircut

I'd say the best things about Linux are not primarily the GUI setup, although that can also be considerable. The best part, however, is the inner mechanics of the system and how much smoother they are compared to Windows or MacOS. If Linux can be customised to be used in smart toasters or servers, it can clearly be customised to suit your own specific needs within the computer. With it, you'll see purpose for learning bash scripting and C language programming, because you get to see the kernels source code, so not only is that a valuable dev-learning experience to see closely how that software interacts with the hardware to do what it does, but you can even write your own personal add-ons and modifications to the system, for example, can't find a specific driver or package you want or need to use, or maybe the available drivers don't fit your standards for quality? You can learn more about how linux's source code works to write some software package or driver that can both integrate with it accordingly and also suit your specific needs, whereas for Windows or Mac, unless you understand binary, it is practically impossible to play with your computer in a similarly rewarding way. So to summarise, the customization features go levels deeper than what would initially be seen, just think of the android operating system's open-source nature allowing its user to have so much freedom in molding it like play-do, and consider the fact that Android itself is powered by the Linux kernel, so there's that to thank.

Your video on ricing is what motivated me to try it out, and honestly my productivity has been so much better. I havent booted up windows in soo long and really enjoy how customised it is for my own needs. I really appreciate it!

people should just start using linux like a normal OS, instead of basing their whole personality on it lmao

I'm new to linux and I just installed xfce and I'm trying to rice it but I agree with you that I don't want to be ricing all the time in 1 year. I want to get to a great spot specifically for me, with my goals. Once I'm there I want to back off, not base my whole personality on linux. Great video, thanks!

I use unpatched dwm and firefox with a music daemon that shuffles on startx.

no need to ever change.

Do both. Use a rock solid Linux install on your main machine, and throw NetBSD and CDE on your pentium machine.

Hey man, would you mind if I made a video of me recreating your DWM setup in i3? Love your setup/color scheme but not a fan of Suckless

I'm at that point as well. It took me a while to find the perfect setup, but I eventually found one that I couldn't possibly recreate on Windows or macOS (that's the beauty of Free Software). Once I found it, I just wrote a script that does all the work for me, so even if I need to use a different computer or I have to reinstall the OS (neither of which happen often), I can have my ideal setup in a matter of minutes rather than hours.

I still tinker about to some extent, but it's usually just out of curiosity, not because I have intentions to change anything about my setup.

nice video, you summed it up well. since I got used to Linux, now I find using Windows really hard - turns out it doesn't make any more sense than Linux, you just got used to the weird things it does.

I appreciate your video. I'm in first year in university in CS as well, and I recently ditched windows for linux. I've been dabbling with it in the past, but for the heck of it, I too decided to only have linux on my laptop. I have a pretty good setup, but I would love to talk to you once. You're a chill guy and I appreciate your mindful takes on apps. Cheers.

2:04, this is the perfect reason to use linux. If you have a privacy browser like brave or tracker and ad blocker extensions in firefox, big tech will have so much less data on you. I feel like more people should use linux for this very reason, we don't need to be giving out so much data about ourselves from just daily browsing on our computers.
