My uncle was a paratrooper in Vietnam. He said that if they were under fire they would shoot holes in their own chutes to get down faster. Since he's had both hips replaced I believe it.

This is why you listen to them boring, time consuming, pre jump training you do. Learb them by heart as it will engrave every teachings in your brain so you remember what to do when you have a malfucntion!

I'd be curious to find out if the rate of malfunctions is higher with this new type of parachute then it was with the T-10 series of parachutes. With a T-10 you could literally stuff it in the deployment bag any old way and it would eventually open. If you didn't want it to open you would literally have to tie it shut. This new design seems overly complicated.
