The recast unintentionally works so well though - this encounter was so freightning for saul that he saw jeff in an uncanny way. But after getting back in the game he sees jeff as a lot more meek and manipulable, like the later actors portrayal

That actor played that part perfectly!!! He was creepy, excited, overly friendly, and menacing at the same time. As the viewer you have no idea if this guys just some weird loser that watches a lot of TV or someone with a much more sinister motive.
