On that installation how many watts are you making? I'm doing 20 panels on my roof and each panel makes around 395 Watts.

What you overly produce during the day will never be going to your consumption during the night but it's something not explained in the sales tactics conveniently. You really understand this until your trapped in a contract. Most utility companies restrict the production of your panels not to benefit you completely and it those not matter how many panels to overlap your daily consumption.

Can you power the home with solar in case of a power outage?

You are not explaining the net metering distribution correctly Sr. They will charge you in most cases the regular kwh coming in to the house and way less than have when you send the over production from your panels going back to them.
