So what benefits is this card going to offer you because as many of you probably know, the Amex Gold does have a pretty hefty annual fee meaning it better offer some really great benefits in order to make that fee worth it. Well just to make sure that we're all on the same page, the American express gold card currently has an annual fee of $250 per year which may sound insane to some of you and if you don't know how to properly use the benefits then you're absolutely right, it makes no sense to spend $250 on a year just to get some cool looking credit card because I think we can all agree that that would be a horrible financial decision. However, it's pretty easy to recoup that cost by using the most basic offers that come with it.

For starters, you're going to get a $100 airline fee credit which can be applied on pretty much every major airline for food, beverages, Wi-Fi upgrades, and a number of other things that can make your travel experience just a little more comfortable. You're also going to get a $120.00 dining credit that can be used at select locations like boxed, cheesecake factory, Ruth Chris Steakhouse, Shake Shack, and the one that most of us will probably use, Grubhub. And, American Express actually just added a new $120.00 Uber cash credit which can be used for either the Uber rideshare platform or for Uber eats if you're ordering food so if we add just those three benefits up, that's already $340 in cash benefit as long as you use those credits to supplement things that you may have purchased anyways.

On restaurants worldwide, you're going to get 4 points per dollar including takeout and delivery. And you're also going to earn four points per dollar at all US supermarkets on up to $25,000 in purchases each year plus three points on flights booked directly with the airline and one point on all other eligible purchases. And as if all of that wasn't enough, the American express gold card offers a pretty significant signup bonus as well for new cardmembers. Now, this bonus is constantly fluctuating and is sometimes only 35,000 points and can go as high as 60,000 points depending on what they're offering when you apply and what offer you're able to find.

I was between the platinum and the gold, I went with the gold because I won’t be traveling a lot until a year or two from now. So the gold benefits from food & grocery was a no brainer paired with 75k bonus points and my propel Amex for 3x on gas is a game changer!

Just got this card w 90k bonus points. I was also approved for the platinum, which I would get value out of if my job didn't already pay for all my travel expenses. The gold was perfect for me because I eat out or Uber eats every day because I live on the road. I'm definitely going to hit that $4k spending in like 2 months lol. A good card overall with a very low fee if you maximize the dining and Uber credits. I value the dining at $ 120, since we eat at the Cheesecake Factory weekly. I value the Uber Eats at $ 100, since they charge you a service fee of 15% on takeouts. Also a small order fee for orders under $ 10.

The 4% on groceries is questionable, if you don’t travel. I can get 3% on the free Blue Cash. An Amex point is worth about .75 of a penny to me. An Amex Gift card cost 10, 000 points for a $ 50 gift card. Zappos and HD are worth a penny a point.

The gold card is my “go to” card for groceries and restaurants normally, but for the next few months, I’m using the 10X on groceries feature of my new Platinum card. But, after that 6-month window is over, the Gold Card will go back to the top of my list for groceries. I’ve had no trouble getting $250 of value from it annually. Very solid card.

Just FYI for anyone. If you currently have an AMEX green card and you upgrade to the gold card the annual fee for the first year will be $150. I recently upgraded to gold and got this introductory annual fee.
