How to Perform Insulation Resistance Test on a Transformer

Insulation resistance test is one of the important tests to perform on a transformer when the integrity of the insulation is tested. The windings of the transformer are coated with an insulating material that keeps them electrically separated. But there is always leakage.

IR test is performed to identify the extent of the leakage - lower the leakage the better, which means higher insulation resistance the better.

Where can I buy this box or get the plans to build it?

sorry, may i ask what is your max insulation tester reading? is it 200M ohm (199M) or 999M ? because i have 4 digit insulation tester with max reading 1999Mohm and my transformer is around 560, not over limit or 1.. is it supposed to be okay?
