its an old idea and it always works but just another reason why the old standard should still be the standard defiantly starts every time.

No need to replace that old battery, just always park on a hill...good advice.

This is what "Push to Start" used to mean!

My dad showed me this in my school parking lot by pushing me with his truck around till I got going. 😂

As my grandmother always said... "if you drive a truck with an automatic transmission, you aren't driving a truck"

Saw the title and instantly thought... Roll Start!

When I saw the title I was like “he’s gonna do the rolling start trick isn’t he”. I miss manual transmission so much, a lot of neat little tricks like this that you just get screwed out of with automatic

When I was in high school I had a pretty worn out 86 mustang with a 5.0. The battery was on its way out at around Christmas time and I couldn't afford a new one. I took my GF (now my wife) out to see some holiday light shows and I either parked on any decline I could or pushed the car from the driver's door with the door open and hopped in when we got rolling to push start it. Good times.

Had to push start my mother's Saturn a few times in winter growing up, always nice to have that option

Learned this on tractors and trucks on the farm. The tractor in question had the Porta Potty on it during elephant garlic harvest, so you got really good at dropping it at the right time to avoid any splash from a jolt

I used to be able to push my 71 scout out of a parking space in reverse and then jump in pop start it... In Reverse!!

It's funny you use an Obs to teach this..lol...I literally had to do this for the first time last night..just a tip..MAKE SURE YOU USE 2ND OR 3RD GEAR..ITLL REDUCE THE JOLT THE TRUCK TAKES..I used 1st thinking use the easiest gear on the motor...now I'm worried I broke something..I didn't but I'm still feeling that 1st gear jolt today

I still do this in my car/truck sometimes even when the battery’s not dead lol

I drove my grandpas old farm truck to highschool. I remember the battery went bad at some point and before we got it fixed I used the hills we had at home and at school to get there and home. Good times. In fact, his truck looked a lot like yours. It was a GMC and had those gauges with the white stripe that follow the red indicator. Dashboard looks the same too. It’s still parked up on the hill at my parents house. Hasn’t been used for years.

I grew up with this. On cold mornings, Dad would get me up early to shove him down the road with our column-shift Oldsmobile sedan to get his old Chevy running. Then I would put the slightly better car back to bed, and I would crawl back in bed. I was way too young to get a license, but I knew how to pop a clutch. I thought everyone knew this. Back then, some automatics would push-start, IF… the transmission had a rear pump.

Works when your starter takes the day off, too!
When I was a kid we had an old farm truck we always parked on a slope and did it this way, that was over 50years ago...damn I’m old🍺👍🏻
