best video on the subject EVER.. double clutching is something so many drivers just kind of "know how to do" but can't explain to me the specifics of what it is they're actually doing.. so many details in this video that are super helpful: like not depressing the clutch all the way, the sweet spot on the tachometer, how to recover from a missed gear etc.. this video is a real game changer. thank you guys! I've gotten this far with my CDL only because of the amazing community here on YouTube and helpful creators like these guys that are willing to make such detailed five star content like this.. my road test is on the 6th.. wish me luck guys.. thanks for everything

Been driving OTR for 12 years, with a total of about 26 years driving tractor/trailers. For those of you that are here trying to figure out how to change gears in a big-truck, you are going to hear 374 different ways to change gears. Everybody has their own way. I've never "double clutched". I only use the clutch when starting from a dead stop, but hey, whatever works for you. When I first started, I shifted by watching the rpm's. Every truck has it's own personality, and will shift in it's own way. Now, I just shift by ear and feel. Here are some things to always remember.... Don't lug the transmission!! Keep your rpm's up (between 1200 & 1500 rpm). DO NOT SLAM OR MASH the gears. When you are between gears (going from one to another) don't jerk it into gear. GENTLY pull the gear into place. If it won't go, just rev-up and gently pull into gear. The same is true for down-shifting. Good luck, I know it's a little frustrating trying to learn.

I PASSED MY TEST THANKS TO YOUR VIDEOS!!!!🎉🎉. I had never driven a manual vehicle in my life and learning in the beginning was so difficult for me. When I came across your videos it put EVERYTHING in perspective for me and now I can shift like I've been doing it for years!! Thank you for sharing your teaching skills with the rest of the world because I have definitely benefited from it. God bless you all!!👍🏾

My instructors do a great job at pointing or what you do wrong, but fail to ever even explain the how and why of what I'm even doing. After a long day of getting yelled at for reasons I dont understand, it was really nice and refreshing to see a quality educational video that I can actually learn from and improve from.

I now fully understand what I was doing wrong, and why my instructor was so frustrated. If only they took the time to explain it to me like this video instead of just yelling at me for not knowing what I'm doing.

Thankyou for the high quality educational tool.

They have not taught any of this in my driving school. I have to test next week and I’m grinding gears like crazy; down shifting.
Thanks for this video. Hopefully I have time to practice what I should have learned three weeks ago.

Update, I got it figured out.
Thank you.

Wow.am paying school to teach me this but it sad that i had to seek help.we need instructions like this in classes . otherwise, they put us behind the wheel without explaing this and expect us to work magic. This video is worth all the school fees i have wasted on the school.

I really wish my school had not assumed I knew how to shift and sat me down for a lesson like this. This is a HUGE help. Thank you.

Couple active Navy guys on a remote island, had to learn a 10 speed because it was all we had. looked up your video and we got in the truck. 45 minutes later we were both shifting through gears smoothly.rrally appreciate how in depth the video was.

My first ride was horrible. I didn't even make it out of the first 5 gears. I found this video. On my 2nd ride I was literally on the highway in 10th gear going 70mph. It was an incredible feeling. I just need to now find videos on how to slow down and prepare for setting up turns and getting into the turning gear. Big thumbs up.

I learned a lot more from this video in 15 minutes than I learned from my instructor yelling at me today.Your not listening! Your not listing! Some people are just not cut out to be instructors
My sincere thanks to the producer of this video.👍

I'm just getting my CDL, but I spent years as a trainer/master trainer. I can spot a good, effective teacher in 2 seconds, and you're it. Nicely done.

Way better than my instructors constant ranting and raving on my first road drive.

Life Saver!.!. Took a 30 year break in driving to become a cop; 2 speed rear ends were the norm back then. After retirement I went back to driving. Everything is automatic for the first 3 years. Then yesterday they sent me 200 miles to retrieve a tractor, because, “You can drive the old stuff with a clutch.” Hmm, custom knob with no shift pattern and a badly leaking top radiator hose. While facility mechanics got the replacement part, I learned the transmission was an Eaton and probably a 10 speed. After starting to watch a number of terrible amateur videos I found yours! Hallelujah! Made it back through rush hour traffic. Not a pretty sight and the driver’s mirror fell apart at one point (ALWAYS carry Gorilla Tape and flex ties). I did have to pull to the shoulder and start over 3 times, so I’m avidly rewatching the downshift and missed shift segments over and over today.

I just want to say that I've never shifted a manual trans in my life. I started CDL school this past Monday, and our first day on the pad was yesterday. Within an hour, I was upshifting from 3rd to 6th and downshifting from 6th to 3rd without any grinds or missed shifts, and it's all thanks to this video and my instructor's patience. I'm at a great school with 1:1 student to instructor ratio. Great guys all around, and small class size. Still have another 4 weeks to go, but I'm very pleased. Shifting was my worst fear, even moreso than backing or pre-trip, and this video put my mind at ease on day 1. Thanks!
