This week we talk about growing mint in containers. All varieties of mint (including peppermint, spearmint, chocolate mint, etc.) are incredibly easy to grow in pots or containers on a patio or even indoors. It's a great mint for beginners and because it grows like a weed, one plant will give you plenty of harvest.

In the video we cover everything you need to know to grow mint in containers or pots, including planting seeds, harvesting, and pruning.

Pollinators LOVE the flowers from mint plants so I have a couple of each kind for my use and keep one to flower and feed the pollinators.

You want to cut above the nodes (joints).

Thanks! I have killed off every mint plant I've ever come across, but now realize that it didn't have enough water . Probably got too much sun, too. Since we're here in AZ, I will try again - maybe I'll have better luck during our cooler months.

How do you separate roots that have formed in a smaller pot. They are all rounded.

Great video! I just noticed but why is my Peppermint plant stems turning brown? There's still a lot of growth but the stems are turning brown?! They get good sunlight and water. What's the problem?

The vines of my plant are hanging over the pot and not standing up, so I put the plant in a larger pot but it's not bushy like I thought it would be.

I just got some mint from my mother that was very neglected so I revived them and they are growing great, I'm sure she bought them while they were just starting to grow (when I first saw them they were about 1/4" tall) now they are about 4"-5" tall but I'm not sure when to start taking some of the tops off to get them fuller. Any advice? I know one is chocolate mint but I'm not sure about the other.

Does the pot need drainage holes or is it ok to not have drainage hole?

Hi! My mint plant has a bunch of brown/black edges like I see some of your leaves have. I noticed I had aphids, so I sprayed it with insecticide and cut off the brown/black leaves. Do you know what’s causing it?

My lemon balm & mint plants both have this black coloring/patch that's almost mold-like but it's not raised or wipes off at all, its patches on some leaves, whole leaf black on others. I picked them off but I'm not sure where to cut exactly to not ruin the plant limb. I trim right at the end of the leaf where it meets the stem, but I've cut the stem off at the stalk on some branches cause the whole set of leaves had the black spots on them. Neither the leaves nor branches are growing back from where I cut tho. So I'm not messing with it anymore until I figure out where to trim to keep it growing back.... None of these videos do a closeup of the cut & look just random so I'm not understanding why mine isn't growing back.

Gone Are the days when people just get to the point in their YouTube videos. Now we have lots of “ummm, ” “ahhh.” I’m using the Internet to find a quick answer, not watch someone stumble with content.
