Discharge a Sony PVM CRT!

This is how to discharge a Sony Trinitron CRT Professional Video Monitor according to the service manual.

Other CRT manufacturers will spark, so please don't attempt to do this without knowing what you are doing.

Don't take off the cap till you discharge it

I wanna see you removing the anode cap with the tube actually charged in a big tube, I've discharged some in the old days and I would never get my hand close to one without discharging it first the old way

You handle the anode cap before discharging it. I've always been told this is dangerous. I was taught to slip the discharger (screwdriver in this case) under the lip. Are you only doing this because you know this unit has a bleeder resistor?

Hey Retro! I'm hoping to discharge and yoke adjust my Sony KV27XBR50 and possibly some other sets I have my hands on and I have been looking to your channel for help with safety and adjustment methods, and I think im almost ready to crack the units open!

My question for you is with Sony units, is the discharge method essentially the same? removal of the anode cap etc? Thanks again.

I picked up a discarded 20" Samsung slim flat crt with a cut cord. I'm gonna open, look it over and put a new power cord on it. The TV even has a USB port.

Do i have to hit both prongs under the anode cap or is one enough? Is hitting the hole inside the ctr necessary or can the cap be left on?
