Better jump scare than most horror flicks.

RR and their darned shock humor again. Need a new shirt and coffee now. Thanks guys. 😜

You want to put a big resistor inline, so the tube discharges over couple of seconds. That's especially important for vector monitor tubes.

As an electronics hobbyist that is THE WORST JUMP SCARE EVER! You are evil! ❤️

It doesn't hurt to put a 1000 Ohm resister in circuit between the chassis and the screwdriver you're using to discharge the CRT

Probably just me, but don’t feel I’ve heard this tune for a while. It’s odd as this one takes me back to when I first started watching your channel which inspired me to retrobrite and refurb my old A600! Good times 🎉 I’ve been nostalgia’d by the nostalgic nostalgia music.

this is actually something I have wondered several times in my life but never actually cared enough to look up.

When I first got into computer repair? I did something similar on a Dell 24 inch CRT monitor yeah, that sucker set me flying 5 feet and stop my heart, that was a fun day.

Well... I think I need a clean pair of pants after that! 🤣 I knew about having to short it with a screwdriver, but have never had it explained so clearly before! Thank you! I believe you can also get proper capacitor discharger pens to make it a little safer and saves having that surprise spark making you jump, although not essential if using the screwdriver properly (and NOT touching any metal part of the screwdriver of course).

Next problem is that the CRT can self charge again, so need to discharge before putting the ultor cap back on.
I found out the hard way 😅

I once had a MSX monitor with a blue arc going from that tube wire to something else. No idea what was going on but I got another one.

Or find someone else (courageous/expendable) to do it for you. Just make sure they are wearing rubber-soled shoes because no one is really expendable.

Loved the jump scare at the end! Ya got me, hahahahaha

Danger, the charge can build up again after you do this, best to keep the anode and chassis permanently connected with a crock clip to crock lead AFTER you do this.
