What is the difference between Service Delivery and Asset Management?

Have you ever considered what the difference is between asset management and service delivery? Are MSPs getting it all wrong? Have we forgotten our purpose as a MSP?

So many MSPs out there are focused on asset management, computers, firewalls, servers, anything they can get their hands on, from software all the way to hardware.
There's an old saying in computer science from Dijkstra, it says, computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. You need to get back to focusing on service delivery.
What are you doing for the clients? 
How are you solving business problems for them?

This used to be a main focus of IT, and over the last 20 years, we've lost that focus in lieu of becoming resellers, becoming best buys.

So get out there and talk to your clients about how you can provide them services that will differentiate them in their market.
If you can do that, then you will shine amongst all your competitors and you will start making a lot more money because margins are way better on services than they'll ever be on asset management.
