Boris Johnson has told Forces News "we have to take some brave decisions" and recognise that parts of the kit used by UK forces need to be modernised "to move forward".

However, when asked about possible cuts to troop numbers in the British Army, the Prime Minister neither confirmed nor denied reports.

He was speaking ahead of the Defence Command Paper's publication, which is expected later today.

Imagine a politician who actually answered the question he was asked

Well if a war ever comes I hope we see bojo on the front lines to see the men and women he sacrificed for someone else’s war

We should be expanding not cutting
We are thin on the ground as it is.

I hope none of your kids have to fight, Boris! It'll be lonely in the fire trench if they do.

More money needs to be given to defence and we should be expanding all of our defences especially as war with china is inevitable and possibly Russia.

Nice to see a reporter who has enough respect to not interrupt right after asking a question.

Wrap around child care doesn't tell service men and women if their deployments will become much longer, but going by that I would say they will be

I read that GB is making a choice, they will increase there nuclear power and there marine, but this will reduce there investment in the ground forces. If this is true, even if i can understand this choice, i can't help to be a bit sad about it, because this means that GB don't have the same interrest over the continent. I only hope this won't endanger Lancaster house treaty and the joint forces.
Best regards from France

“...yet” aside from this you just have people out of work in the armed forces, still on paper but not paid or working as they try to cost cut to save money.

Yet again the army being cut down in size...
What happened to no cuts bojo?
It’s an absolute travesty there are no other parties worth a dam to vote for that actually care about the armed forces....

Wait so no reduce in troops just equipment?

If we manage to have good enough recruitment programs and efficient equipment then he’s making a good decision. As long as he doesn’t cut military numbers and spending then he has my vote agree to disagree.

Reduction in manning means more deployments, lower morale and therefore less retention in personnel.

In conclusion, we are not cutting troop numbers we are adding more funding and no we are not making soldiers stay away for longer periods of time more often, we are just asking them to do more...~Boris Johnson March 2021

Sensible changes here, modernising old equipment like the challenger and investing in cyber defences.

Bunch of people in the comments who think they are more qualified than the general staff to decide what is needed where.
