Boris Johnson has said it appeared P&O Ferries had “broken the law” by sacking 800 workers without notice – vowing that the government would “take them to court”.

“It looks to me as though the company has broken the law,” the prime minister told the Commons at PMQs. “We will be taking action therefore, and we will be encouraging workers to take action.”

Mr Johnson said P&O Ferries had a duty to notify the government about the sackings 45 days before the move – promising that the firm “aren’t going to get away with it”.

P&O's owners have been in trade talks with this government since Brexit concerning Freeport contracts, there's no way they would have even considered this action without getting clearance from the government first.

I'll guarantee Boris knew about this before P&O did it.

Well if your party hadn't abstained from banning "fire and hire" we wouldn't be having this debate...

Amazing how boris was in Dubai 2 days before this happened, also amazing how all the work visas were all stamped and ready. This government knew exactly what was going to happen.

Get P&O to fill in their questionnaire from the police.

They didn't break the law; they did break the law but didn't know it; they did break the law but no one told them; they will launch an inquiry to find out what they did.

But you do sit by Johnson in continuing to deal with them on the Freeport. If Freeports are so wonderful, surely there is a queue of investors we can turn to. Another thought is why are we selling off such vital infrastructure to foreign investors. Imagine if this were Russian money and Putin decided to close our ports down!

Ban them from ports and give Stena Line the contracts, subject to taking on the employees that were thrown overboard by P&O

"They broke the law, and we will take action".

Says the man who routinely breaks the law as a matter of course. Well, I believe him. Don't you?

That must have been the hardest thing he has ever had to say labour law unions workers rights 🤣 and actually have to admit they roke the law and what makes it worse is these guys used to decide the fate of Britain when government was formed 100s of years ago lmao and they ruled back then even the word of Labour was considered treason back then

It didn't take long for him to turn it into being about what his party had done did it?
