Boris Johnson promises rocket launch from Scotland by 2022

Boris Johnson has announced he will plunge £16.5bn into the Ministry of Defence while pledging support for the creation of “inexhaustible laser” weaponry, and a “space command” capable of launching the UK’s first rocket by 2022.

Marking the funding as an end to “the era of retreat”, Mr Johnson laid out a four-year financial deal for the Ministry of Defence to develop cutting-edge capabilities in the future battlefields of cyber and space.

The NHS, schools, and social services have spent the last 10 years being cut to shreds, the economy has been ravaged by an unprecedented pandemic, and our GDP will continue to shrink as of new year, but somehow we have money to spend on military weaponry?

Edit: I wasn’t expecting any replies when I commented. I understand military spending has some value but I believe this is less than that of most of the public sector, and I was expressing frustration at the lack of funding these have received over the last decade and the hypocrisy of suddenly- in an economic crisis- finding the “magic money tree” that the Tories smeared Labour with.

I have other things to do this evening and have turned off notifications: if you are a Tory bootlicker or military zealot feel free to continue commenting but I will never see it so probably best to expend your efforts on finding a job instead.
