German here, i'm an atheist but i still pay church tax. Churches here build hospitals, old folks homes, daycares and a lot more. Id like to see this stay, because a lot of programs they have are for low income families as well. They have stations for the homeless and stores where you can get clothes for free, food for free and so on. No church attendance required and no religion required as well.

Only in the modern world with the welfare state can we scoff at churches making money.
In the pre modern era for the poor, the Church was your retirement, housing, food stamps, healthcare, and even more, all in one.
An absolute pillar, no better yet, the utter foundation of society.

The states should digitalize the process, of leaving the church. But somehow, they keep delaying it.

Is there a government tax for being stupid? Most countries would be rolling in $$$. Do you think anyone would identify as being Jewish in Germany? Then again, why would any Jewish person choose to live in Germany?

I'm glad I got out of the church. This organisation never did anything for me, so why pay the taxes
