Thank you very much for your help but I had a question my macbookpro that my sister gave me for Christmas was her old one but it need to stay connected to the charger to stay on once you take off the charger or disconnect it it turns off why is it doing this??

I have the exact same model as you. I have excellent battery life, (8-10 hrs web browsing). battery condition shows normal. I have been searching the web, forums etc. find an answer to this question: When I shut down, (not sleep) my battery will discharge a fair amount. like 4-5% in 8hrs. If I use sleep, It discharge 6-7% in 8 hrs. I am fine with the discharge in sleep mode. Seems normal, and acceptable. But That amount while shut down? I have tried resetting SMC, etc, ran diagnostic etc. no change. Can you tell me how much yours discharges while shut down?

my update in 2021. Earlier they had replace battery soon, replace now etc. Now they give a 'service battery message'. But my Mac still has 3 or more hours on battery. Apple claimed that I should change the battery. When I downgraded to Sierra and upgraded the message disappeared. Now I get messages like some app is using significant energy etc. Apple support is not clear whether this is hardware issue or a battery issue or a software issue. Now I can't find a way to get any online test.. May be we should just ignore these messages.. so long as the battery is working.
