The BEST Upgrade for YOUR Sawmill Shed ep 141

Rotating a 4000lb White Oak log with a couple of cant hooks makes you feel like a man! Let's face it, after one monster log, you don't have the energy for five more logs... Rotating large logs by hand is time-consuming. It is also a lot of WORK! Not to mention future hernia surgery.

Big logs = ( Energy + Time)

In this episode, we engineer and install a trolley and hoist from VEVOR to help rotate logs on our manual sawmill. A bridge crane is a great upgrade for your sawmill shed. It gives you the flexibility to lift, turn, and move ANYTHING in your sawmill shed!

Looks good! Can't wait to see it in action! It may be helpful to have the ability to keep the trolleys on the two end beams from rolling but time will tell.

I love the idea of the trolley.

However, I see a problem. The internal slope of the I-beam is intended for the trolley wheels to self center on the beam. The top of the I-beam is only flat, and therefore the trolley wheels will Weeble wobble along with the rail. Also, if you were to hit an obstruction on the beam while you’re sliding the main top beam laterally, then it could skew the rail and be at risk of coming off the track. That would be a disaster to see that beam fall with a log hanging from it.

A potential solution is weld on keeper wheels under the beam so that I can’t derail.

Only time will tell how well that will work .
