Sharing my thoughts on Fuji's new announcement today: New Fuji X-E3. If I would do it all over again, would I choose the Fuji X-T20 or the Fuji X-E3.

I'm really struggling to choose between the X-T20 and X-e3 for all the reasons you state. I much prefer the form factor of the smaller X-e3, viewfinder placement, the joystick, bluetooth, more touchscreen controls and improved CAF. However, I really want a flippy screen! And Fujifilm has chosen not to update the X-T20 with the improved CAF. What to do...

a tilty screen + the AF joystick, just like the XT2 would be such a winner combo for me !

I'm able to comment on it now that I've bought the X-E3 with the 18-55 mm lens kit. The pros are that it's smaller & lighter than the others - there's 325 focus points that perform extremely well even in challenging lighting conditions. I've used it during concerts in very low lights/extremely fast erratic moving subjects and it locks on that perfectly well. I've been very impressed. People seem to be worried about the battery life compared to DSLRs, but if anything else, I'm finding this camera last longer than my previous Canon DSLR. I've taken over 900 shots by sometimes minus 1 degree C celsius, and the battery has not let me down. I don't really care about the moving screen because my previous cameras never had one, so I'm not finding this a hindrance. I do tend to accidentally knock the front wheel out of place (the one at the top right of the camera, below the shutter) quite a bit though but other than that, brilliant handling. Also worth pointing out for those wanting to do video work: although it does shoot 4K and has a Mic port, there's no quick video button or on the dials. It's hidden inside the "Drive" mode that you have to scroll down to and remember to reset to stills afterwards. Useful to have Wifi on that camera, great addition. The lens quality of Fujinon is absolutely outstanding. I'm loving this camera, I don't regret switching to this mirrorless system. I'm now a Fuji fan!

My professional deal breakers for video:
Unlimited recording time = GH5, Blackmagic, phones
No overheating = GH5, Blackmagic, phones
Inbuilt stabiliser = GH5, Olympus
Good enough Dynamic range = lots of brands
Good (enough) out of camera video colours in unpredicted scenarios = Fuji? Most brands are struggling here imo..
Good lenses = not phones ;-)

My personal dealbreakers for photo:
Beautiful JPEG colours = Fuji, (Sony A9?)
Left placement of EVF = X-E3, X-Pro2 ("digital rangefinder" is my preferred shooting style.)
Light weight = X-E3, X-T20

Bottom line. As long as Fuji doesn't provide a camera that shoots unlimited video, I'm gonna need two cameras. I know this, so I won't be too upset about it.

I have the X-E3 and my partner has the X-T20.

I have bigger hands and the empty space on the back of the X-E3 is excellent for me. I’m always hitting buttons on hers. I also like not getting greasy nose marks on my screen thanks to the rangefinder placement of the EVF.

My partner came from a Canon so she much prefers the drive dial and DSLR styling.

The best part is being able to share lenses!

Great tips! Just what I was looking for.
I think t-20 is a better choice for me.
Thank you Omar!

you should definitely tell fuji (if you can contact them) that the upcoming focus algorithm upgrade (which is present on the x-e3 and is 100% coming to the x-pro2 and x-t2) must come to the x-t20 as well!!! fuji hasn't said a word about it (regarding the x-t20), hopefully they won't leave the x-t20 to die while the ~more expensive~models of the same generation keep getting more and more love.

Omar, don't get rid of that IPod. I'm fairly certain that has the Burr-Brown DAC and indeed, they don't make 'em like that anymore. The X-E3 or Canon M6 II is what I'm eye-ballin' for my motorcycle trip this year. Thank you.

Okay, i do agree it would be super nice to have the tilting screen. But here's the thing... I was playing with a T20 recently, and it just feels so clumsy in the hand. It's a small camera definitely, but i can't really find a good position on it, have to hold it with two hands all the time, if i don't want to be dropping it accidentally. The E3 on the other hand looks very clean and minimalist, without the crammed D-pad it surely has a better grip out of the box. And while you can put a grip on the T20 too, it doesn't work well with slightly wider lenses like a 35/1.4 or even the 18-55 kit lens), since there is no room between the grip and the lens to put your fingers.
So fat i'm loving the E3 design, but yes, i really wish it had a flip screen...

fabulous comparison ;  you like the X-T20 over the the X-T2 because of the Small Size, Drive-Dial ;   and you will continue with it, over the X-E3, because of Flippy-Screen, Pop-up Flash, Drive-Dial, D-Pad / Tactile-Button.  The XE-3 has Flat-Top (RF look), VF on the side, Touch-Swipe, Joy-Stick / Focus-Lever (like xt2 & xpro2), and most importantly, Pocketability.   Thanks.

I have both the x-e2 (got it for $200 mint condition on ebay). I also have the x-t20. I love the feel and weight of the x-t20 but the x-e2 is better to grab and go with a pancake lens attached. I love both cameras. I agree with you on the swipe on the x-e3 and that is a turn off for me as well. I love your videos btw...You are doing an awesome job!

The touchscreen doesn't replace the D-Pad, the Joystick does... you don't have to swipe if you don't like that.

Omar, as you may know I do watch a lot of your videos and comment, this is an older one so I hope you see this. I finally got my xt20 after a month or so of waiting and it is amazing! A tip you may want to mention on your videos, I used my visa to buy it, and with visa the camera comes with an additional year of warranty, beyond the 1 year fuji gives you. I was debating buying a warranty program through the store I bought the camera with but I never use extended warranties in the past and usually when people try and use them, there are loopholes and some things are not covered etc.. So this is a way to get basically a free year warranty just by using your credit card to purchase the camera. Anyhoo, as always, love your channel and I cannot believe your only at 11k subs, you deserve more, I am always mentioning your channel in live chats and comments on youtube.

Great rigs both but the "deal killers" for both models for me were the fact that neither is weather sealed. As I often find myself out in the elements, cameras that can take the elements are important. I went for their bigger brothers, the XT-2 and XPro 2. I am slowly selling off my Canon setup (been a Canon shooter since '79'), Fuji has simply won me over. Not a perfect system to be sure but the seemingly have the momentum and are bending over backwards to keep their base happy and the seemingly constant firmware updates, even for discontinued models is frankly very impressive and says a lot about Fuji's commitment to their customer. Thats said I can see adding with one or both bodies into the system.

I personally like felxible screens like the one on cannon powershot G5 because it can be set in any position, a flippy screen is better then nothing but a fixed screen is a no way hosay.

Stumbled on one of your video a couple days ago and now subscribing your channel Omar. Bought my X-T20 over X-E3 a while back and have been a faithful X-E2S user for all this time. No regret. Greetings from Indonesia.

Other than EVF placement the only real differences are Tilt-Screen & Drive Dial vs Joystick & Bluetooth.

Personally I don't think the lack of a Dive Dial should ever be a deal-breaker,
lack of Joysticks (or D-Pad) have a good workaround with touch screen features and
lack of Tilt-Screens requires a phone with remote view app as the only work around but
if you need remote shooting and immediate wireless image transfers to your phone or PC than I believe the X-E3's new Bluetooth feature is the only Fuji-X choice for you.

So it boils down to, do you want to use your phone while shooting photos or not? If the answer is no then get the X-T20, If you said yes or "I don't mind that" then the X-E3 is for you :D
