5 Reasons to Buy - Fujifilm X-E3 - The x100f killer?

We all know what the latest generation of Fujifilm cameras can do and how they stack up against DSLRs and other mirrorless offers. The image quality is identical on all of them so you have to use other deciders to pick between them. Here are my 5 Reasons for choosing the X-E3.

I’m a retired gallery and publishing photographer who has shot with just about every camera make and format in the film line, to just about every camera in the digital SLR line. Recently I dumped all my big SLR gear, and went shopping around for a sharp, functional, easy to carry camera to take with me on my vacations and shooting around my environment. The Fuji X_E3 is the one! There is nothing I can’t do with this camera, and I’ve used it for technical photography through microscopes and other optical equipment due to the live HDMI output, and street and vacation photos. . It’s such a sweet little camera and a great deal for the quality and versatility! By the way, I love your photography. Nice work, nice review!

To be honest, your complete reviews are excellent, but my favorite part is your photography! So many great shots, balance and feeling in the photos (regardless of camera and lens!).

Having owned both cameras (plus several Fujifilm bodies over the years) I can say the the x100 series is my favorite camera of all time. When I look back at my portfolio I'm most proud of the photos from my x100 because they "just captured the moment." For me the fixed focal length forces me to prioritize the composition and think outside the box. The x100 has a tactile advantage of being more intuitive than any other camera I have every owned. I hardly ever need to dive into a menu. Buttons, knobs and switches all perfectly placed in an arrangement that becomes second nature. I never shot a lot with flash but the leaf shutter allows for some ridiculous flash sync speeds, allowing you to throw some additional light on a backlit subject with the onboard (or my hot shoe Nissin flash). I shoot more backlit subjects now due to the leaf shutter. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the ND filter. With a simple click of an Fn button I can hit the ND filter and shoot wide open (f/2) in broad daylight. Lastly, the size and design of this camera make it so easy to carry that it's with me everywhere I go. I mean the XE-3 with the 18mm f2 is quite small but the x100f has the edge. Plus the 18mm focal length is a little wide for most purposes. It's not a camera for all but it's perfect for me. Kudos Fujifilm! I'll take this camera to the grave.

I just bought a second-hand X-E3 and have to say that it works absolutely great in 2023... the sensor is good enough, the camera works like a charm. So in love with my purchase.

I bought the x100f a month ago. I had the x100t, so knew its limitations, but now I regret the decision and wish I'd gotten the x-E3. I love the ISO dial and built in ND filter, but aside from that, I miss the touch screen and ability to change lenses (I have the adapter lenses which don't change focal length much). Posting this comment for anyone else out there making the decision.

I prefer x100f more because of that ovf and i prefer fixed lens like x100f or ricoh GRII for everyday carry

Still have my used X-E2 and I love it but I'm pretty sure the 3 will be my next camera. Great video as always.

Five reasons to subscribe to Mattias Burling:

1. Voice over: I really enjoy your narration. If English is your second language then well done, your inflection is perfect. You are the Werner Herzog of camera reviews!
2. Composition: I love the composition of your photos, your use of light and dark. Also your colour grading is superb - very visually pleasing.
3. Brevity: your reviews don’t outstay their welcome. Concise and to the point.
4. B-roll: you obviously put tonnes of work gathering lots of photos and video to make your reviews super interesting.
5. Information: loads of relevant info presented in easy to understand language. This Fuji XE3 just the latest example... by the end of your review it was all I could do not to pull out my credit card and order the thing!

Keep up the great work - you have earned yourself another subscriber (and hopefully many more).

Your comment comparing this camera to the X100F - I think you're right but it was a big call and likely the subject of flaming wars on forums, but you manage to communicate it so well! Well done.

I love my XF 18mm, I didn't even know there were haters! I gave my son the 27mm as with the 18 and the 35 f 1:1.4 I rarely used it, even though the tiny form factor makes the camera so pocketable on my X-M1. Now the 18mm lives on the X-M1 body and I use retro glass, or my 55-200 on the X-Pro1.

I am also a big fan of the XE series of Fuji cameras and use the X-E3 with the Fuji f2 lenses — 23mm, 35mm and 50mm. Even with those smaller lenses, though, I find the accessory grip and the Lensmate thumb grip improve the handling immeasurably. Especially since the thumb grip keeps you from accidentally activating the Q menu.

I've been rocking the combo XE1 & 27mm for years. Nimble, light and easy to use. No complaint here...

How did you learn to see the good light? The fact that you can makes your images very special. I am basically still a beginner, but I can see the magic in your pictures because of that.

Hi Mattias, I have recently bought into the Fuji system- five weeks ago- based largely on your channel. I got a mint condition XE2s and XT2 for bargain prices and am really pleased with them. I love the physical controls and to be able to just look down and see my settings, without having to dive into menus to change things. The XT2 reminds me very much of my old Pentax MZ-5 film camera of the late 90s (I think maybe Fuji copied the design!). I only have two lenses at the moment- the 18mm f2 and the 27mm f2.8, but am going to get the 35mm f1.4 too, as I'm a prime shooter. I agree with you about the 18mm- it's a great lens and I love it! Love your channel and keep up the good work! Best wishes.

I love my x-e2 + 27mm combo. I feel like the x-e2, x-e2s and x-e3 are completely under-appreciated in the x-series lineup. Hidden gems :)
So thanks for giving them some much-deserved praise!

Idk what it is but the shots at 2:44 and 2:47 are my favorites from this video. I’m a sucker for that. Great shots!
