American Airlines is the last remaining United States airline to offer a true first-class product but has plans to phase out the product. Indeed, there are only two aircraft models in American's fleet that have a Flagship First cabin. But how long before this is phased out? Let’s find out in today’s video…

Just matching industry standard. What many people fail to realize is that airlines make a large amount of their money on business travelers. These people have their own contracts and policies with their companies as to what travel accommodations will be made for them. Rebranding the forward cabin as business is a smart move.

It wouldn’t have mattered since only the 20 or so 777-300ER’s featured it. It was also not even a proper First Class compared to the likes of EY, EK, SQ, QR and other well rated full service airlines

Rumor has it that this is a prelude to AA taking all seats out of the planes and having the customers stand and hold on to a bar with a leather strap. It is getting old to continually hear what AA is doing to make the customer experience less enticing.

With United, domestic "First" is actually positioned lower than international (Polaris) business.

Not holding my breath that first class pricing goes away with the seats. It’s an expensive time to fly.

I fly and dead head on our T models. I absolutely love it and will miss those ten lay flats. But, those business class seats right behind are also super comfortable on our transcons.

I think unless the flight is really long, First Class is no longer worth it. After all, look at how good Business class seating has become in the last 15 years anyway, spurred on by British Airway's groundbreaking _Club World_ Business class.

As far as I am concerned American Airlines is a second rate airline. Getting rid of first class is appropriate! Why I feel this way? In 1973 when I was a young fellow I traveled to Hawaii from New Zealand with American, I had never traveled on my own before, I went to stand up and a passing air hostess pushed me very roughly in my chest back into my seat. I have never forgotten or forgiven! I do hold a grudge!

As some Airlines today have a much better business class then some first classes, I think it makes perfect sense. Also, because the majority is comparing price and performance and – as I do – think that the price difference is out of proportion.

It's just renaming the service because it the new trend.

Not a big loss considering the quality of their first class product

I read a comment on another forum where someone travelled on AA F and when the FA came around with the box of chocolates 2 were missing and he noticed the FA was eating one of them. To me that's not luxury. To me, you might aswell not have bothered to serve them. If AA can create an F class that's on par with EK SQ etc, then there's no point offering it!

Fly Business Class on my international flights. As flying has evolved, more people want Premium Economy vs. First. On-board Cabin Crew can also enhance the experience, if engaged.

The interior is important if paying a premium, but, at the end of the day, it is what is "under the hood" and how well the infrastructure is maintained that is key😊❣

I would need to try and experience this cabin before it's completely gone. The main issue with American Airlines first class is that the soft product is only marginally better than what's offered in business class on the same flight, and they seem to have no intention of upgrading their first class product.
My question is, if they no longer have first class, what's going to happen to their flagship lounges?

If money wasn't an object I'd look to fly first class wherever possible.

US based airlines seem to expect "their" way of doing things to be adopted everywhere. European customers might not appreciate it. I think its a current fad which will be shortlived.

Makes sense .
American first class is still lower than Emirates, Etihad and Qatar economy

Bummer, because full-tilt 1st class is awesome. On JAL you get gourmet on demand, 18yo scotch, 3 attendants. And no riffraff with screaming brats!

First Class in Emirates 380 is the best for the price..
