"He's delirious from the morphine", she lies to a world-class doctor.

It fills me with a boiling rage watching the Mother just comfort the father while he abuses his child. Again. She just let him do whatever he wanted to his kids and never once tried to stop him. Always just making excuses.

What a horrible woman. She killed her son. She was more concerned about having a man than her kids.

I was half expecting Shaun to start choking him

This scene is painful, but it happens in real life. A lot of abusive parents never change, and never feel bad about what they did to their kids. This scene needed to happen because Shaun finally knows who his father really is. Even though Steve's death was tragic, he didn't have to suffer anymore. Steve took care of Shaun like a father, and he was just a little boy, and he shouldn't have had to deal with that. The truth is that this is how abusive parents are in real life, and it's sad

What I appreciated about this scene is, number one, that Shaun finally made peace with himself concerning his father, and number two, that Shaun didn't run. That had to have been terrifying, and Shaun didn't deserve to hear that at all, but he didn't run from it, and that's one of the bravest things he could've possibly done.

Shaun: I forgive you

The dad: That's all I needed to hear, now get out.

Both Shaun's parents should go up as one of the 10 Worst TV Parents.

My tears starts puring when Shaun said he forgave him and it went straight back into my eyes when the father said those horrible things.

So sad to see Shaun’s parents fail yet again! His dad’s words show just how awful he was!

I also give credit to both Lea (in this episode) and Claire (in 3x01) for recognizing that Shaun’s mom failed as well, by not taking action when she could have.

Shaun is a far better person than I could ever hope to be. I could never bring myself to forgive someone as despicable as his father was to him. Shaun deserves so much more than what his horrible father and his weak mother gave him.

Thankfully Dr. Glassman gave him that.

I feel more pissed off at the mother tbh. She just abandoned her kids and blindly followed her abusive husband

After Shaun said he forgives his father then the father yells at him. He doesnt deserve forgiveness at all.

So, how delusional does morphine make a person? Because that was the excuse his mother made.

"I couldn't make you happy" Wow. That was way too sad.

I don’t know. For me it’s hypocritical to see someone and pay respect to them on their deathbed when they need you, but when you needed them countless times they were nowhere to be found. Glassman was twice the father figure than this bum and I know there were plenty of times even during the series when Shaun needed a male role where was his dad? Nowhere to be found! Where was Glassman? He was there when Shaun needed him. Shame on the father!

This scene hit me hard. I had an abusive father. I was so forgiving as child and in adolescence. As an adult I eventually learned that we could never be close because he needed me vulnerable to hurt me and I couldn’t allow it no more. This scene made me relive some memories that’s for sure.
