Father’s Day is right around the corner and that can only mean one thing: Dad rock. Now, dad rock can mean a few different things, but ultimately, it’s the rock music that makes up your dad’s old record collection. It’s important to note that this music isn’t exclusively consumed by dads, as the genre contains some of the most iconic classic rock songs of all time. So in this lesson, Ayla (not a dad) will show you how to play six of her favorite dad rock riffs from the 1970s.

There are a ton of incredible dad rock riffs out there, but the six riffs we’ll be looking at in this video are “All Right Now” by Free, “Life In The Fast Lane” by the Eagles, “China Grove” by The Doobie Brothers, “Jet Airliner” by the Steve Miller Band, “Highway To Hell” by AC/DC, and “La Grange” by ZZ Top.

About Ayla Tesler-Mabe:
Ayla has been making waves in the world of guitar playing as a professional guitarist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, since the early age of 14. After only been playing for two years, her first YouTube video (a rendition of John Mayall’s “Hideaway”) put her on the map and kickstarted her music career. She has since been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, become a member of the Ernie Ball and Fender family of artists, and earned various Berklee College of Music scholarships. Musically, Ayla finds great pleasure in exploring the numerous avenues available to her through various styles of music, as seen through her work with Calpurnia and Ludic.

I was 10 years old in 1963 and heard Beatles, Rolling Stones, Who, Cream, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin ALL for the first time amazing time for music as ALL this music "Blew Our Minds" there was still 50's and Elvis being played and Old Country Music. It was overwhelming for me, I love music but at the time I got hung up with certain groups. We used to carry our vinyl records to parties playing them for each other. Later on with age I began to appreciate an amazing time in music and discovered Jazz. Living through those times I cannot possibly have any favorite as I am still listening and processing ; ) Thank You for Insight ; )

Right up my alley. Been playing those songs for 40 years and I'm a dad. You play and teach very well. And play some beautiful guitars! Oh, and you nail those original guitar tones.
