So basically Dad rock is the phenomena of continuing to listen to the acts that you grew up with... while you become a dad, and they continue to make music

The Foo Fighters are the living embodiment of dad rock these days.

I definitely learned about rock from my dad, he reared me on a steady diet of Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Jethro Tull, and as everyone has to go a little more extreme than there parents, he allowed me to blast Manson and A7F through the speakers of the family mini van when I hit puberty. The man understood. He knew I wasn't rebelling, but just trying to find the music that was mine, and he enjoyed quite a bit of it. He's always kept up with rock, while returning to favorites, so nothing ever shocked him or offended his sensibilities. To this day, we can turn turn the radio on to the same stations and both be happy.

So... I listen to Dad Rock? I once tried to get along with my dad by asking whether he is (or was) also a fan of Pink Floyd, Sonic Youth, The Smiths etc. and he looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Who?" Am I the dad here?

You guys do realize dad rock is just a vague term used to define older bands and not a real genre right? Eric Calpton was dad rock in the 90s and now Nirvana is dad rock.

I'm sorry that my dad listens to good music

This explains why I wasn't popular back in highschool. Once I found my dad's music my mind was blown aways (all those bands hahahaha yes, pink floyd, emerson lake and palmer, deep purple, led zeppelin, etc etc.) Now, guess what I like today! Tame Impala, Pond, War On Drugs, Mac Demarco, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Murlocs, La Luz, Kikagaku Moyo, Wolfmother, etc. and I'm 29!! It all adds up! hahahaha

So people in there 30s and 40s are weird if they still make music ? Did I misunderstand that point ?

I'm not a dad, I'm only 20. But it is true the older you get, the more ya love Steely Dan. Good stuff.

This is equally the most smug and moronic thing Pitchfork have ever done

I'd love to be cradled in a 70s-era Paul McCartney's jacket.💖
