The Bioenergetic Theory of Health is the idea that the root of all disease is an inability of our cells to produce and utilize energy. The ability to use energy to create structure and function within a cell encompasses many of the aspects of cellular metabolism. Cellular metabolism is defined as the sum of energy of chemical reactions that take place within the cell. Foods are primarily made up of macronutrients: carbohydrates, fats & proteins. These are broken down to be used as energy. There are a number of toxic substances with harmful effects within foods that decrease our cells ability to produce energy like polyunsaturated fatty acids and anti nutrients.

Dr. Ray Peat has put together an assortment of foods (liver, milk, juice, ruminant meat...) that he recommends to maximize cellular energy production by providing your body with lots of energy and all the nutrients it needs to be able to properly use these calories to create structure.

Danny Roddy was talking with Georgi and they discussed how when you are on your death bed, you are only burning fat NOT glucose. That was enough for me to turn to glucose for energy. I went from Saladino's diet to Ray Peat and now my metabolism is healing. You still have to watch HOW MUCH you eat otherwise you will gain weight. My sluggish metabolism was burning about 1500 calories a day for a 54 yr old woman that used to teach cycle five days a week and work a very stressful job. My temp was around 95.7F when I woke up and my pulse was around 50. Now I am up to 96.7 when I rise and my pulse is still around only 60 but I am not sure how much of that is just me having a strong heart that doesn't need to pump as often. That is where I am still unsure about the pulse.

I've been strict carnivore for a while...it sounds like the Ray Peat way of eating aligns more with something like Dr. Saladino's diet of fruit, honey, dairy and meat.

I was in the Ray Peat ‘space’ for about twelve months. I loved the food! But like many others I gained weight. I was told that my body was healing, my metabolic rate would rise. For me that was a scary place because I was already overweight and suffering type two diabetes. I wasn’t prepared to ride the wave and see if their opinion was true.
There were many members who had come from the ketogenic diet and were struggling with thyroid issues. I wasn’t like that because my diet had been vegan high carb. I was eating plenty of carbs and sugar!
My concern now is the sugar aspect of the diet. The metabolic theory of cancer shows links between sugar and cancer growth. Chugging down Mexican coke just doesn’t sound good to me. I fell in love with sugar and was making home made marshmallows to dunk in my coffee! But it wasn’t helping me lose weight or reduce my blood sugar readings.
I wonder if because most people came from a ketogenic background with issues like poor thyroid control they needed the sugar to reduce cortisol. I believe that’s what Dr Paul Saladino believes and he drinks a lot of juice.
I’m not bashing the diet, just trying to understand it better really. How long can one stay on a ketogenic diet? How many struggle with health issues because of it?

Anyone care to explain or clarify why ray would stutter so much and why georgi seems to be obese or borderline obese? am i the only one who sees these things?

I don’t think that Ray Pete’s dietary sugar recommendation was for overweight people. I also don’t think it was for those with any evidence of a fatty liver or visceral fat. He was not ignorant of insulin.

With that said, you probably will not loose visceral or liver fat consuming 300 grams of sugar each day.

His recommendation for artery clogging red meat & saturated fat was point on. He understood the animal based diet. His view was radical.

He believed that body fat should be retained for injury or illness. Breaking it down was not good once you are at an ideal body fat %. This can be impossible to measure exactly.

You must use those 300 grams of energy from sugar EVERY day so you don’t convert them to body fat. Gauging this exactly is nearly impossible.

So his dietary recommendations need to be practiced with extreme diligence. If any weight gain or loss of strength or muscle is observed you must remove the sugar.

Good luck to everyone trying Ray Pete or Paul Salidino.

Why oranges? When I went plant free all of my autoimmune related issues disappeared- no plants nuts seeds and citrus is high oxylate so that’s not optimal either?

Dude you barely mentioned GLUCOSE! Huge aspect of the Ray Peat way of eating! Low fat! Fruit! Boiled potatoes! Liver and meat are a very small aspect of it.

Rip Ray peat but some of his ideas were benefit of the time he grew up in not the modern era . His followers especially the ones the forums are idiots especially haidut who is an supplements seller
