Buying harnesses online can be weird. We made this video to make it a bit easier for you!

We carry three Misty Mountain harnesses: The Sonic, Cadillac, and Titan.

The Sonic is designed as a sport/cragging harness. The Cadillac is a hybrid aid/free climbing harness. The Titan is a super comfy aid specific harness.

When sizing, make sure you take a harness measurement at the waist, not at your hips. Once you have a number, shoot for a size where you fit in it's stated size range. This is especially important if you are getting a harness with just one buckle at the hips, like the Sonic. Being at the bottom of the size range can be beneficial since the gear loops will sit more symmetrically on your body.

For harnesses with two buckles at the waist, like the Cadillac and Titan, you get a lot more adjustability. The gear loops will ALWAYS be symmetric on your body, regardless of where you fit in the range. Being able to tighten or loosen the harness a bit throughout the day is nice, so maybe going for the smaller of two sizes you fit into is a better idea.

We carry the Misty Mountain Cadillac in their full size range, from XS (which bottoms out at 24") to XXXL (which has a stated range of 41"-44", but is super good enough all the way up to 60" in our testing). We are trying to have the most accessible sizing possible since finding harnesses that work can be so hard!

True story, I swear:

I was climbing at Table Rock in North Carolina several years ago.
We were in the parking lot gearing up for our climb when a car pulled up next to us.

The driver got out and commented that he really liked my Misty Mountain Cadillac harness.

I hadn't owned it very long and was always having trouble putting it on.

I told this guy that I hated the harness and thought it was a piece of garbage.

His partner started to laugh and leaned over to me and said that this guy was the owner of Misty Mountain Products.

I sort of felt like a jerk, but the guy was super nice about the whole thing and gave me some great pointers for putting the harness on.

He also mentioned that he had heard my complaint many times before.

Since then, I've never had any problems with the harness, but think about that day every time I put it on.

Super awesome to see Misty Mountain highlighted on your channel! Forgot to mention that they are one of the last harness manufacturers still sewing harnesses in the US (shout out to Goose and the crew in Banner Elk!). Not the latest fancy tech but tried and true and super good enough. Yeeehaw!

My climbing days were in the '70s. There were not many harnesses to choose from but there were brick & mortar stores where you could try things on. The Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) store near me even had one of the first climbing walls (a 2 story fireplace chimney). I chose the Whillans Sit Harness. Still have it. I used it for sport, big wall & alpine/ice climbing. It was wonderful, even in a long leader fall it was comfortable. I also used it for climbing poles and trees with spike climbers. These days it is my safety harness if I go up on a roof. Since the synthetic material is 50 years old it would probably fail below rating on your machine but it is super good enough to keep me from sliding off a roof. This video is wonderfully informative. It is scientific as measurements of belt and body are compared and contrasted. You actually put it on and commented on the usefulness of the various attributes as well as making this a tutorial on the fit. All that and a bit of well done humor besides ... who could ask for more. Keep up the good work!

I love my Misty Mountain harness! I got mine custom, combining the Cadillac belt and the Titan leg loops. I mostly aid climb and rappel, so for as much time as I hang out sitting in it, that combo is the best of both worlds for comfort without too much bulk. I also went for the quick adjust buckles instead of the double-pass ones. No regrets here!

it would be cool to see a guide about chest harnesses from you. im not a very active viewer so i might have missed it but personally i never really knew the purpose/when you should use one before doing a in person climbing safety training. (videos on the internet are cool but having a certified guide with you when doing stuff for the first time is great)

It would be really cool to have the width of the leg loops and waistbelt listed for the harnesses in your store. I know that width isn't everything when it comes to comfort, but it is a decent indication.

Ask around for women to try out and climb in different harnesses. Ideally creating a table of waist, hip and thigh measurements. Not everyone is petite and someone's curves might not be what the manufacturer thought of.

To the point you might want the medium or large leg loops but small waist for a specific harness.

Fully rated haul loops could definitely help during a pick off rescue, although I'm not sure what most SAR guys are doing. (My professional rescue training is in cell/radio towers, so same-same but different)

Back in the 80s we had modular harnesses. Two, three, five gear loops? Fixed or adjustable leg loops? Mix and match.

Hey one thing that would've been super helpful is thigh loop sizing. It's not really a big deal for mist of us guys but for women it can be a pretty big deal.

For example my partner will fit a large womens harness but needs an XL cause the leg loops won't fit her thighs and this means she has to crank down the waist super hard.

Hey guys, do you have any video Break Testing Hitches in specific? - Clove Hitch, Girth Hitch, etc?

Or if any case you have any recommendation on where to read on the estimated percent efficiency reduction of hitches on a rope, that would be great.

Great video, I know they are more European but I've seen some DMM harness, especially the renegade. Do you have any experience with those or any input. The floating belt help ensure you're gear loops stay equal, which is why I hate my current harness.

Could you use a Petzl Caritool on one of these harnesses?

I can't believe that huge harness still uses old-school double back buckles. I hate those things, my old harness from college has them.

This would have been helpful because the waist is great but leg loops are too big on the Cadillac i got
Straight up love it regardless
Will eventually get a correctly fitted one
