To salt or not salt? This decision is so individual and I hope to share my personal experience and lessons learned. If you feel great on carnivore with salt, there is no need to cut out salt. I also have noticed that new and transitioning carnivores in particular may need to up general salt intake. But if you are also experiencing less of a desire to eat salt, the things I and Dr. Chaffee share in this video may be worth considering. There is plenty of sodium, electrolytes, and minerals in the meat and seafood we eat, which explains why no-salt carnivores can thrive. Remember, it all comes down to what works for YOU, so experiment! Share your thoughts below! ❤

Thank you, Bella. I have been eating raw animal foods and zero salt for 16 years, minus a few short periods of trying some salt... and not being able to sleep and other symptoms similar to yours. Totally love that you made this very clear video about it. When people ask me about salt, they usually quote the "animals seek salt" BS. As though lions sprinkle salt on their kill on a daily basis... Then they tell of kings paying with salt and valuing it very high... another BS, as that is true ONLY after humans developed agriculture and cooking... they started eating bitter or tasteless food and cooking them to take the toxins out, making them even more tasteless then adding salt and herbs to make up for the loss of flavor... and then creating toxin medicine to deal with the diseases that resulted from it, and dentists to deal with the cavities... and deodorants to deal with the stink, and tooth pastes... all the dealing with the harm of plant foods. Then sun screen because if you don't eat enough meat, then the skin burns instead of absorbing nutrients... then sun glasses as eyes become unable to handle the light... causing skin cancer (because the brain doesn't know you are in the sun and the skin's ability to not burn is not activated)... and the planet becomes a dessert from depleting the soil and killing the habitat and killing billions of animals and on and on... layers of mistakes handled with more and more layers of harmful so called 'solutions'. Just eat raw animal foods as nature provided and none of the problems arise. Thank you Bella for all the good work you do.

lol what’s with all these comments? Did people just not watch the video? She literally said she’s sharing her personal experience, keyword: PERSONAL. And she said that she promotes lmnt and electrolyte supplements help new carnivores and that those ppl should UP their salts, not to mention that everyone should experiment to see what works best for them. Like I needed lmnt for a good year but now I don’t and feel great. Geez, literally people can’t take it when someone just shares their opinion no one’s forcing you to do anything it’s literally just sharing an opinion

If you are older, be aware. My father is in his mid 80s and struggles with low sodium. He doesn't know how low it is until he gets tested. But he will struggle with crazy heart flutters and a foggy brain. It always comes back to low sodium. So this video may not be appropriate advice for everyone.

I habe high bloodpressure. I grew up in a home where they told my Mom to not keep salt in the house because my Dad had heart disease. Went yeats of staying away from salt. I asked the Dr why I have HBP...he said too much salt. Funny, I dont use it or add it. If its bland I ate it bland. Did an exeriment...started carnivore and only salt to taste. 2 weeka my bp went down 20 points. If your salt sensitive, your probably still insulin resistant. The quality of salt really makes a difference. I cant eat seafood. What salt I get from meat is not enough because I get cramps. I add a touch of salt cramping goes away.

I dropped salt as well as an experiment after listening to Dr Chaffee. Next day I did get a severe calf cramp when I stretched after waking up. Another immediate side effect I I did notice was I didn’t wake up extra early for no reason like before. As the days passed, the cramps diminished and my sleep improvement continued. Like Bella states, it may not be for everyone but everyone should experiment to see if there is a difference.

Been hospitalized way too many times for low sodium to cut salt.

That’s my experience as well. I craved so much salt on the beginning of my journey I think because I was so deprived and dehydrated constantly but now it’s becoming less and less. I too was hesitant when my salt intake was getting much lower but I’m glad my suspicions are confirmed in this video.

Table salt is bad but Celtic sea salt or Himalayan pink salt has tons of minerals needed for the body is absolutely healthy for you.

Thanks for the suggestion to reduce or eliminate salt. I've wondered why I have always woken up in the middle of the night and then can't get back to sleep. I never suspected salt intake. Although I've been a carnivore only 12 days, I'm going to try to reduce or eliminate the salt. Your videos and talks seem always to contain a lot more information and tips than the others who are carnivore YouTubers, which makes y9ur channel very appealing.

I need salt, Mg, and K in my diet because I do Ironmans. Without electrolyte supplements, I will get debilitating cramps at night and during the marathon.

Great video! I stopped salting last August after I read Bear’s article, Dana’s blog, your video and the fact that long term carnivore use zero salt. it’s been 8 month and I feel fantastic. Exactly what you just described. Yes we need sodium but we don’t need to add salt. Sodium is already in the meat, that’s why we need to eat enough. I am supper happy I gave up salt. It was hard than quitting sugar. My taste bud is so sensitive (? I don’t know the right word) and I can literally taste difference from all the meat I eat and water I drink. Love no salt!

I've stopped eating salt for a few days and i feel WAY more satiated. I eat about 1000 calories less a day and am starting to lose those final pounds of fat.

Just go with cravings...you will sometimes crave salt and it will get less and less...but also depends on stress, anxiety, mood etc.

I appreciate your insight! Do what works for YOU, like Bella said. So many people will need salt but you might notice overtime you don’t need it!

Thank you for sharing. I'm going to give this a try for a couple of weeks to see if it makes a difference in my carnivore lifestyle. 🥰

My son, in his 30’s, went low salt because he thought salt was bad for you. During this time, he still ate in restaurants where he got plenty of salt, but his levels were still low. He started having seizures, and it took a long time, and many tests, before they discovered it was the salt. He hasn’t had a seizure since adding salt back in.

This is interesting. I appreciate your insight. When I started carnivore, I felt amazing. It really lasted for about a year. For the last year though, I’ve not really felt “optimized” like I used to. Not really bad, but not great. I’m starting a 14 day water fast today (because that’s the only way I feel great anymore) and after my fast, I’m going to try a month without salt.

Wow, I've been using a lot of salt the last few years and this really strikes home with me - the sleep, bloating etc. Thanks for this, I'm definitely going to start experimenting.
