Let’s talk about the signs you’re consuming too much salt.

Top signs you’re consuming too much salt:
• Edema (in the eyes, hands, feet, or lower legs)
• Thirst
• High blood pressure
• Headache
• Restlessness
• Irritability
• Nausea
• Fatigue

Top signs of sodium deficiency:
• Weakness
• Low blood pressure
• An increase in neurotransmitters
• Vascular stiffness and high blood pressure
• Insulin resistance

In my opinion, the most common cause of high blood pressure is insulin resistance. Many things can contribute to insulin resistance, including a high-carb diet, intermittent fasting, and a low-sodium diet.

The most common treatment for high blood pressure is diuretics. But, diuretics can cause you to lose both sodium and potassium.

People who are salt sensitive or who have symptoms of a sodium deficiency are really deficient in potassium. Sodium and potassium work together in the body, and you need twice as much potassium as you do sodium. The average person needs 2300mg of sodium and 4700mg of potassium per day.

The more carbohydrates you have in your diet, the more potassium you’ll lock up, making it unavailable. It’s important for people with diabetes to get on a low-carb diet and consume foods high in potassium or a good electrolyte powder.

We need sodium in our diets, but not just sodium chloride—we need the whole mineral balance. This is why it’s best to consume sea salt.

However, if you have high blood pressure, try consuming Baja Gold Sea Salt. This type of sea salt tastes great and has lower amounts of sodium.

I've had high blood pressure for all of my life and did my best to cut out salt because that's what everyone recommended. My blood pressure never went down. Then, for an unrelated reason, I went on the keto diet and my blood pressure plummeted to normal levels, even as I started to add more salt back into my diet. Dr. Berg's information has been a life changer in my understanding of nutrition.

I'm always amazed about how much time people spend learned "their craft, " but spend virtually no time understanding their own bodies. Arguably the most valuable asset anyone owns. Ty Dr.Berg for this free education basic information

A few years ago my Dr was wanting to put me on a Statin, instead I listened to Dr Berg's advice (and a few other, Dr. Shaun Baker, Dr. Berry, Dr. Saladino, Thomas Delauer), I not only have no need to take a medication anymore but I lost 40lbs, and improved my cholesterol markers and testosterone markers, which my own Dr. Doesn't understand how I can improve those without his help😂

My doctor tried to get me to take diuretics for my high BP and I refused knowing that it would deplete me of potassium. My potassium level was teetering on the low side anyway and I refused the prescription. When I asked about potassium pills she told me that potassium was dangerous! I knew better and immediately ordered Dr Bergs electrolyte drink mix. And my BP started dropping almost immediately. Went on Keto, lost 12 pounds within 6 weeks. His advice is lifesaving.

Having been a swimming pool contractor for 38 yrs, and working 10hr days in the sun, I did have unusually low BP and craved salt. I'd buy a jug of lemon Gatorade and pour salt in it. Interesting to learn this now. I have high BP and try to limit sodium, lemon juice is a great substitute for salt!

Potassium and sodium go hand-in-hand. When I’m working out hard, & sweating heavily, I have salt tablets, and coconut water. Boom! I feel so much better.

For the past month or so, I've increased my salt and potassium intake. But I just found today from your videos that I've got the ratios mixed up! Time to increase the potassium intake! Thank you for sharing!

I suffered from vertigo a few years ago, had blood work done and it showed elevated sodium levels, I quit eating table salt and my vertigo went away. That was over 4 years ago and have not had vertigo since. ✌️✌️

This 💯 lines up with my experience. Upping my potassium considerably (using cronometer to track) led to a ton of improvements, potassium deficiency is a seriously underreported issue!

If I had to choose one nutrition expert / channel for the rest of my life you already know who it would be ❤

I started adding potassium chloride to the water I drink and I can notice a huge difference in how I feel.

I used to have unexplained heart palpitations and since I started adding potassium chloride to the water I drink the heart palpitations have COMPLETELY disappeared.

I always had plenty of sodium in my diet, but I could never eat near enough fruits and vegetables to hit 4000mg of potassium a day. Adding potassium chloride to my water is an easy way to get the right amount of potassium my body needs. I’m hoping it will help with my blood pressure too which tends to be on the higher side more often than not.

I found through watching your other videos about potassium that I had become very sensitive to my requirement for Potassium. At nearly 69 years old I’ve never had a blood pressure problem until recently. Now, where I routinely take 5000 mg of potassium in divided doses throughout the day, I have no problems. Sodium is difficult to measure (2300 mg) since it’s so prevalent but in the normal course of my days if I take less than 5000 mg K+, I do have elevated blood pressure. I had to remind my alternative doctor (that I do EDTA chelation therapy with) of the sodium potassium pump! Thank you for all you do! 💖🙋‍♀️🇨🇱

Dr Berg, could you possibly talk about how dangerously poisonous for the body is to be overconsumed by emotions, to feel the stress running through your body every second? To overthink everything and punish yourself for not doing the things right, for not choosing the best option? This is what is happening for me right now and I am absolutely drained.

*_I aim for 5g sea salt each day, but the days I consume 10 or 15g/day; I feel SO MUCH BETTER that evening-and following day. Then back to normal feeling._*
*_I do eat a very salty meal(10g-15g)from time to time, as a treat. I do not fully believe I am one of those who should eat 10g/day; there's enough people online that claim the 5g is too little and they have had the same positive reactions I have had on taking 10-15g/day. Odd thing is, I don't get really thirsty from 10-15g salt, I want some more water, but not twice as much as usual?_*
---> *_Spreading out the salt intake is a good idea, I also have a crack of sea salt in my morning coffee; this has several benefits well worth a Dr.Berg video._*
