the ii - V - ii - V tease with no I chord resolution at 0:25 is so clever. and then at 0:39 the chords go up a whole step (but the vocals only a half step!), teasing with the ii - V in B, which actually does resolve to Bm at 0:46. and this Bm then goes to E7, so THIS chord sequence is now teasing a ii - V - I back in the home key of A, but is subverted!! with the III7 at 0:53, which we expect to lead us to the relative minor, which it does, except major - leading us on a circle of fifths progression (and therefore giving us the ii - V - I we've been starved of) back to A, which is the first time we've heard the I chord in nearly a minute. laufey, you are a masterful singer, lyricist, composer, and instrumentalist. absolutely unreal work. easily the best track on the entire album. what a intimate, beautiful piece of work
