A 5400 RPM hard drive should be banned for life. That's unacceptable in today's standards.

iMacs just need a big refresh, the bezzels are not on point! Hopefully not with Butterfly Keyboards :{

With the current imacs, it is not necessary to open them up to upgrade the hard drive. If you attach a usb 3.1 gen2 housed ssd to the thunderbolt 3 port and clone across, then select that as your boot drive, you will get about 450 mb/sec sustained read/write. you can then use the internal as a backup.

I did exactly as you advised I’ve got the £1, 449 iMac with fusion drive and a T7 2TB Samsung SSD and my god my machine is a beast..

About the only thing I store directly on the iMac are PDF’s word documents and some miscellaneous university work. Everything else my photography my 4K videos adobe lightroom photoshop And I even run my final cut cache all right off of the T7 SSD. Super snappy. All on that gorgeous 4K screen.

As for the bezels, personally I think a computer looks better with the bezel because it frames everything symmetrically and beautifully. It helps me concentrate and focus my view on the work. It’s also handy for Post-it notes. Whereas a bezel-less design would look better on the TV so that you are fully immersed into a film.

The overall design of the iMac is a tried and tested beloved look, about as good as the iPhone 5/5S design and everyone love that phone it’s a classic. I feel the same way about the iMac it’s a classic. I only wish it came in a space grey just like the iMac Pro to match my iPad Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

I’m still rocking a 2013 21.5 inch non retina iMac and it is still going strong 💪 I’m probably not going to upgrade for another few years, this thing is holding up really well

I'm wondering if how it compares to a 2017 baseline MacBookPro 13"🤔😉

How the i5 is able to keep up with the i9 in the MacBook pro is beyond me. I'm looking at an iMac and was thinking that for some Final Cut and more intensive programs I'd need to go all out, but clearly all I need is the i5 and the 560X

Hello am viewing this video six months after it was posted. Is your recommendation for a desktop unit still the same?

Have been using PC at home but it just died. My wife and I love our iPhones, so we are considering making the switch to iMac desktop. Has anyone else made the switch after decades on PC?

I just spent $3400 on a new iMac and I was so scared you were talking about my 27" model!

can i ask a serious question? i'm considering trading in my 2017 5k imac and getting the refreshed 13"mbp. thoughts? the only reasons i'd want to hang on to the imac is for the 27" 5k display, no t2 chip, and user upgradeable RAM; but there are so many other things going against the imac. i would like to think apple is going to refresh it sometime in the next year? or less? the looks are dated, which i don't care that much about in and of itself, but if a redesign comes with upgraded I/O, that's something I'd want. It's also got the same old ass BT, not even an option for 10gig ethernet (not that I can make the most of it, but it's like a $90 upgrade on the mac mini), the vega 48 seems like an overpriced and lackluster upgrade, and they leave so much empty space on the inside, which could have been used for a secondary fan(????), which would seem like a smart idea for a computer with heat issues... desktops are going out of fashion, and mobile productivity is the present and the future. But I still do enjoy the desktop experience. I figure that with a MBP + TB3hub + egpu + external storage, I can get similar performance (if I go for the 15"), plus portability.

As far as why i'm looking at the 13" mbp is because I can almost trade them for each other straight up (maybe a few hundred on top for upgraded RAM and SSD). Ideally I'd like the MBP 15" with the vega 20 and 32gb RAM and a larger SSD thanks to the price drops. But because of the nightmare stories I've seen relating to the keyboard and thermal throttling, it seems like a big risk to spend that much money on a laptop, especially with the rumors of a new MBP with a keyboard going back to the scissor mechanism... even if it ends up being in an even higher tier pricewise. Also, the vega 20, while better than the radeon pro, is still pretty underwhelming.

Should I just wait to see what Apple releases for new imacs or mbps? The problem with this is that my trade in value is going to sink fast.

No I'm not a "power user", but if I'm going to invest this kind of money on a computer, I want it to have a little more longevity.

To be honest, I've had a hard on for the MBP for a while, but the price to performance seems... blehhhh... plus the aforementioned throttling issues and crap keyboard (tbh i like typing on it, but i dont want to deal with having to get it repaired all the time).

I'm so torn.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been thinking of purchasing the newest iMac Pro 🖥 for my YouTube videos. Now, I just need to save $4, 999 for the base model.
