Malik Ambar was among the tens of thousands of men, women, and children captured in Africa and sold into slavery in the Middle East and India over nearly nine centuries. Born Chapu in 1548 in Harar Province, Ethiopia, Ambar (as he was later called) was stripped of his family, his name, and permanently removed from his homeland. Nevertheless, half a century later he had transformed himself into a king-maker in southern India’s interior region known as the Deccan where he led the area's most powerful army against Mughal rule.

Yes ambar is Ethiopian oromo. Amhara kings practiced slavery back then most with south SNNP Ethiopians and some Oromos since we resisted meneliks colonization. There is even an oromo girl sent to Eritrea was going to Yemen but then South Africa as an orphaned slave and some even came to America.

Shivaji was actually inspired by malik ambar as malik used to work with his father, and shivaji would later go on the form the maratha empire which played a huge part in the defeat of the mughal empire. Its a shame people dont know that the contribution of ambar.

Very nice description of Malik Ambar. We are trying to promote the life of Malik Ambar in the town he created ( Khadki now Aurangabad). His tomb is a beautiful monument but no one go to see it. If one day you come to this area in India please contact us. It will be our pleasure to show you all the genius of Malik Ambar and all he let in Aurangabad.
