What tips can you share with a beginner looking to be more frugal?

A ranked, detailed list of wants and needs. It reduces impulse purchases A LOT. For example, I had "headboard" on the list for two years before finding the perfect-sized one at a thrift store. (And $15 headboard was so much cheaper than buying DIY materials!) In that time, I bought exactly three items from the thrift store - a dress, candlesticks, and a replacement casserole dish - and all three were also on my list. It was easier to say no to impulse purchases when I was looking ONLY for the master list.

I like to make a big batch of chili or chicken vegetable soup and I freeze 1 cup servings in glass bowls with lids. It's ready to heat in microwave when I'm in a hurry to eat. No need to eat out.

I like the old saying
Use it up Wear it out, make it do or do without, that became my mantra when hubby was laid off almost 5 years during the Great Recession,

Iron on patches on the inside knees of boys jeans when its just starting to feel thin from them playing on the floor, before there is a hole at the knees. If patch is on inside, no one knows its there, it enabled my son's jeans to be passed down to my youngest boy.
Shop kids clothes at consignment or thrift stores. Pass down all clothes from oldest to youngest, including underwear they have outgrown as littles they don't know. I even sewed socks at the toes and I am not a needle woman, I no longer do that.
If clothes still fit I don't get rid of them, I shop at thrift stores myself.

Stay out of stores period that helps alot.

My late husband was a spender. The only reason I still have a mortgage is because of him. That is the only debt I have.
He was also a pack rat. I'm sorting through everything and trying to sell what's good, and trashing what's bad. I found paperwork from 1982!
I'm eating down my freezer. It was stuffed. I'm not having to buy much.
I'm eating less junk, especially chocolate. Just a FYI, chocolate chips are cheaper per pound than chocolate bars. And while I haven't done it, I'm sure you can melt them down to make your own chocolate bars.

For me, lists are crucial. I was in serious debt, & I learned to have a Walmart list & stick to it, and saved ne -this was VERY hard, but I am now debt free.

Keep your pantry well stocked with some simple meals and ingredients that you enjoy. Stock what you eat and eat what you stock. Learn to preserve your garden bounty and or local produce that's in season.
Tonight I didn't have much time or energy. Dinner was Instant pot mashed potatoes topped with home canned beef and gravy. Sides were canned greens and candied carrots. It felt like a splurge meal but was both frugal and healthy. Not to mention tender and delicious. We are using our stock while still continuing to fill any gaps. Also shop less often by planning ahead.

LOL, I, too, have to leave my husband at home when I grocery shop. He loves chips, pop, candy bars, expensive frozen entrees and deli ready-to-eat meals.

Sara, we could probably be friends! My internet kicked out so forgive me I'm commenting on the wrong video. But you mentioned books, what kind of books do you like to read!? I love it all. Ebooks, Audio, Physical - all of it. Almost all genres. I actually have a cash envelope named "Books" So that when the opportunity arises, or I feel I just NEED that new book (after exhausting all other free options ofc), I dont feel guilty if I already have the money put back for books.
2nd, If you go to the store w/ your partner, I have learned to say...in the car before going inside, "We have a $10 budget for snacks." & that works really well for us. Set the limit before you go in. Be communicative.
I know there was something but I'm old so I forgot LOL. I'll think of it later. Thanks so much for your content! <3

I hate those things for sale on FB. They're all way too pricey for me!

25% for housing costs? I am assuming that includes property taxes. Dave Ramsey doesn’t live in Southern California probably. I just paid $6000 Property taxes for my small home.

We are saying no to a friend who is doing a big birthday party at a restaurant. Last year, the birthday cost us $60 and we weren’t that happy with it. We did it because it was something that we are done for years. However, before pandemic, we went to the Olive Garden, which is much less expensive.

I’ll have to check quick and to see how I rate
