During World War II, many German soldiers were taken as prisoners of war by the Americans. What shocked them the most was the humane and compassionate treatment they received in American captivity. Unlike the harsh conditions they had been led to expect, they were given plenty of food, medical care, and clean living conditions. This stark contrast to the brutality they had experienced under Nazi rule left them astounded and deeply surprised. In this video, we explore how American POW camps defied the soldiers' expectations and treated them with fairness and respect, following international laws for prisoners of war.

My grandfather was the foreman of a canning factory. When the war broke out he was given the opportunity to employ German POWs. He said they were all hard workers and got along well with the other employees and management. The only thing he didn't agree with was how much they loved America because they were all convinced they'd soon own it when we lost. He also said they got paid exactly the same as the other white employees.

I grandfather was a POW after the battle of Crete, 4 years before he escaped half staved. He said the German guards were also poorly feed and that he didn't hate them.

The US understood that if they would treat them the way they treat their pow they would be no different from them

The German Wehrmacht weren’t Nazis, the SS were.

What shocked me even more is that when German soldiers and sailors were interned in the US during the war, especially in the southern US is that the Germans were treated better than black people living there
Now, I'm not naive, I know about the Jim Crow segregation that had existed, pretty much since the end of Reconstruction, but to treat the enemy better than the people who live there is shocking as hell in a modern sensibility

Many of them got citizenship, jobs, security from the crimes they committed, and all this in America and South America. Probably they desrve it, somehow?

I hate this crap. Nonsense propaganda that doesn’t even matter anymore. They weren’t treated well and that’s the way it should be. It was the same on the other side too. Why would you treat someone who just killed your friends well? You wouldn’t it’s not humanly possible. Feel good crap that isn’t even true.
