***** ATTENTION ***** I Mis-Spoke in this video **** The product name is BEHR PREMIUM WEATHERPROOFING Semi-Transparent STAIN AND SEALER ***** This product is JUNK. I followed the instructions EXACTLY as stated on the can. Didn't matter -- began peeling the same season it was applied. It is now the second season after applying and my deck looks AWFUL. Behr RUINED my brand new deck. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!

2017 FOLLOW UP: To solve the problem I power washed this product off. When it dried I followed up with a coarse sanding using a hand sander. This knocked off the raised wood and the loose flakes of remaining product. Followed by a hose washing to remove sanding dust. Then waited several hot days for a complete dry. This process took forever!!! On some areas the Behr stain actually sunk in and it could not be removed -- Don't worry about that -- If you are using the same color or something darker this isn't a problem. I then applied Sikkens Semi-Transparent Stain that matched the old color perfectly. 3 years later and it still looks fantastic!. I will never buy Behr WeatherProof Stain ever again.

It looks like your boards were still not dry from the pressure treating. Did you do the water test on the wood before staining? If you spray water on it, and it beads up, the wood is still wet, and you should not stain it yet. No matter how long it takes, you have to wait until the water soaks into the wood, when sprayed on it. then you know the wood is dry, and will accept the stain. In high humidity areas, it may take 2 or 3 years before the wood is ready to accept stain.

Yes I have the same problem. This isn't a stain, just a watered down latex product. Doesn't penetrate the wood at all. Worked so hard cleaning and sanding the deck. Now I have to do it all over.

I used the Behr solid color weather proofing all in one wood stain and sealer on my deck two years ago and it still looks great.

Yep. Same stuff failed for me too. I just pressure washed it off this last weekend. Followed directions to the letter, prepped the deck with deck wash (1 year seasoned, brand new cedar deck), then applied super thin first coat and 2nd coat. Failed after about 8 months. Under the overhang held up better, but out in the weather it failed fast.

My deck looks just like this one after 2 years. Even the horizontal rail caps are peeling. I followed the label instructions diligently. The deck was weathered when we bought the house. It was prepared using all Behr products as described on the labels. The deck had been clean and dried for 3 sunny, warm days before application and the weather was dry and warm for at least 10 days afterward. The stain was applied in 2 thin coats with a pad. The stain remained slightly tacky for 2 weeks or more. We didn't use the deck during this time. It is extremely difficult to remove the non-peeled stain to refinish the deck with another product. I would not recommend using this stain. I've contacted Behr by email to see if they'll stand by their warranty.

Applied Behr Transparent Waterproofing Stain and Sealer a month ago on a new screened porch that sat for 7 months prior to application. Followed directions. Everything was tacky and the porch was unusable. Behr recommended using dish soap and washing the porch since this is a water based product. This did not remove the stickiness. Called Behr again and was told to strip the porch. They would pay for stripper and wood conditioner and stain. They emphasized that the re-staining should be done with humidity below 50%. It took me three uses of the Behr stripper plus some sanding to remove the stain. Waited three days to make sure wood was totally dry. I applied the stain on a day that was 28% humidity. Behr told me to apply 3/4 gallon on my 14 x 16 deck first coat and 1/2 gallon second. I went with an even lighter application: 1/2 gallon first coat and 1/3 gallon second. Waited 3 hours when deck was dry and applied second coat. Next three days I ran overhead fan 24 hours. At end of third day, the deck was even stickier than prior to stripping and staining! So after all of this effort and consultation with Behr, I have an even stickier screened porch. I wonder whether people struggling with this defective product should consider a class action suit.

I stained my deck with similar product in 2011. That was Behr SOLID COLOR Premium Deck, Fence & Siding Weatherprofing Wood Stain (Base 5013, Redwood color). The deck was >15 years old at that time and very weathered. I sanded the desk before applying the stain. The deck is still in decent shape (in much, much better shape than on thewatchguy's video) although the paint started to peel a little bit in high traffic areas last year. Vertical surfaces are still in very good shape. I think, the stain performance also depends on the type of wood. My desk is made of cedar. Very soft, easy to sand, sucks stain like a sponge. Interestingly, there were 2 newer planks of pressure treated wood on the deck that were stained with same stain at the same time. Surprisingly, they are in much worse shape now that the rest of the deck.

Pressure treated wood always does this. The chemicals always destroys coatings.

The Amazing thing is that a TV station in California reported that "Consumer Reports" named "Behrs Premium Plus"  is rated the best . I restained my deck last May (May 2013). Pressure washed, sanded, pressure washed again, let dry for a week and my deck looks excactly like the one in the video. Home depot took my review off because I said they were selling Sh*t for Shinola( I substituted Sh*t with "Stuff" in the review) and I claimed they and Behr were laughing all the way to the bank as people were loading this crap in their cars. I should have known, after putting the first coat on the deck(it requires two) we took a break for the day, I placed the top back on the 5 gallon bucket of Behr Premium plus and went to firmly tamp down the lid with my foot. I slipped, the lid flipped and my foot went into the half filled bucket. My wife laughed hysterically, I was mortified, not only did I have stain on my shoe, leg(i was wearing shorts) but I just wasted a gallon of very expensive stain and what wasn't on my leg was killing my grass at the bottom of the deck stairs. I immediately grabbed the hose and tried to save the grass. It turned into a white milky liquid and soaked into the soil, I turned the hose on  myself and the "stain" washed off easier than pollen on a car. My kids crayola finger paint was harder to wash off than Behr. I should call crayola and ask them if they have cedar tone finger paint

We have an older deck, completely pressure washed it, and sanded it to bare wood. We did 4 yes FOUR coats of this stuff. Our patio set completely went through all 4 coats.. Ugh, we figured because it was older it needed more coats so the next spring we sanded the deck and did 2 coats of this stuff- what happened last summer after we put out our patio furniture? IT WORE OFF AGAIN! so this year we went with deck over from behr... Rustoleum has the same product, so we will see what happens this year and what it looks like in the spring

Mine too looks exactly like your video.  Behr is crap.  I just keep applying it every year so my deck looks horrible with dark and light patches because i am not going to sand it every year.

I have two screened porches with a wood deck floor as well as a front porch with wood decking. I've been researching trying to find a solid stain brand that is worth my time and money. Every brand I look into has horrible reviews. Tons of complaints about peeling. Rustoleum, Behr, Olympic, they all seem to be crap products. I'm very frustrated at this point and do not know what to do. It seems that the transparent stains actually soak into the wood rather than sitting on the surface of the wood, so peeling is not an issue. However my deck boards are older and are not a nice even color anymore, so a clear stain will not look good!

I just rebuilt my deck and looking to use semi transparent or transparent as soon as it cures out .I stained my shed and covered front porch with Olympic solid color and 3 years later I am totally happy with both the color and durability .But the videos of there stains in transparent and semi transparent are not so good and now torn which to use .I see that transparent says 4 years and semi says 6 years .I also looked at both types of of Olympic .elite and also there woodland oil and there maximum .I know I will need 5 gallons or more and it is not cheap .I can't find any info on there woodland oil .2 decks one is 12x20 and other is 16x 22 and 2 pergolas I built this past winter and just replace the deck boards .The deck frame was still good so just had to replace deck boards .I predrilled for all my deck screws to insure no splitting

My deck looks exactly likes yours after 1 1/2 years - peeling to no end.  Behr is supplying all the stripping, cleaning and new stain for Free.  I have to do all the labor of course.  They did have good customer service, but after reading and seeing so many complaints about this product after one season wear, I'm not 100% convinced to use the Behr Premium again after stripping it.  FYI - my deck is 20' x 30'.

this video makes me so nervous. I just spent a long long longggg sunday hand "staining" my very large fence with this garbage. I thought it was an oil based product but its not. the labeling is very misleading. I am praying that it holds up better on a fence. I only applied one coat so far and i don't think I'm putting another coat on. Not sure what to do now. Like you, I hand built my project and was very proud to finally stain it. Stripping and re-staining this fence would not be an easy task if even possible. I hope the thin single coat is little enough that it wont peel.

I had a professional put mine on and it turned out exactly the same. Within a year my brand new $15, 000 deck looked like it was 20 years old. Everything was done to specifications that Behr had said to do. When I contacted Behr they said they would replace the same amount of cans I bought with the same stain . Why in the world would I put that same stain on? They also said I had to have the labels, cans and sales slip. Who keeps empty cans after a year??? Needless to say I will never use another Behr stain product. I trusted them because I like their interior paint and have always used it. I also have pictures of what mine looks like. The only thing to do is totally strip the deck down to bare wood.

Tom, I applied the oil stain with a pad, one coat, let dry, you don't apply a thick coat, why would you wipe off? The rail I applied with a brush, went on beautifully... next day it poured rain for 4 solid days and never did a thing to the stain at all...make sure it is the oil based penetrating transparent stain....if it is a solid stain and water base...I agree you will have trouble for sure, would not put that on my new deck..!!

The main problem w Behr is how difficult it is in the following maintenance/stripping steps. Same problem (peeling) are common also in Behr stain on fences.
