Hamsters rely on their scent. Putting moisture on their fur gets rid of their natural smell. Hamsters are very short sighted and they can re trace their steps by smelling. When their natural scent is gone it can worry them and even kill them from stress

I have some tips not trying to be rude
Try getting a bigger cage 450 square inches us the bare minimum
and try putting 6 inches of bedding
and more stuff that is natural so not plastic
