I just got a hamster last week. At first, he was very nervous and shy. Now it started to open up towards me ❤ food is literally their love language

I casually mentioned to my older brother that I wanted a hamster at some point just as a point of discussion. A week or two later he literally brings me home one from petsmart in a tinytales cages (I had planned on finding a breeder). But oh my goodness she is the cutest thing I have ever seen. I built her a nice big enclosure as soon as possible and she took to burrowing immediately. I must have spent almost a grand now on food/hideouts/ treats/ sprays/herbs/ just about everything I could think of. Even a nice little camera to make sure she's actually coming out at night and see how she's doing. She's very shy, the first few nights in her new enclosure she would instantly go back down in her burrow. I gave her nearly a week of minimal interaction to let her get settled and used to everything (Poor thing was miserable in that tiny cage). These past few nights now I've gotten her to take treats from my hand but anything I try after that she'll run away to her wheel and just start nervously running. This is great advice thank you I can't wait to make more progress with my little Cotton <3

I loooove hamsters. They're my favorite pet. I've had a few throughout several years. It always felt great once they became comfortable around me and enjoyed being picked up and pet.

But it’s also the character of the hamster, I’ve had hamsters for 13 years and most of them were tamed, but my last one just didn’t like to show himself or go on the hand. He was a weird hamster, he didn’t horded food, he was lazy af and didn’t run much on the wheel, he was just a bit like an old grumpy man 😂❤ but it’s okay, I gave him the best life possible and my current dwarf hamster is the apple of my eye, she comes out if I call her name and loves to cuddle with me on the sofa, she is also a great photomodel and holds perfectly still ❤
