American ragtime composer Scott Joplin’s “Pineapple Rag” (also spelled as “Pine Apple Rag”) was written and published in 1908. The Rag is in ABACD form, with the first theme returning before the trio section. Once the trio begins, the piece modulates from the initial key of B-flat Major to its subdominant, E-flat Major. The “Pineapple Rag” featured in the 1973 movie blockbuster “The Sting”, which heavily contributed to the Rag’s popularity ever since.

Date: 1908

One of Joplin’s jewels. A definitely all-time favorite. I used to play it, it was always a huge hit.

The trio section (C) is classic Joplin, one of several similarly beautiful trios he wrote, e.g., in Cascades.

Thank you for this, well played exactly as it was written without any silly additions or changes as some other pianist do when they play ragtime. I am right now working to learn this piece and i find very interesting and useful to read the notes while listening.

I love the score with the music!!! Also appreciated is the lack of embellishment on the original score—I've never yet heard a better version than the way Joplin scored it! THANKS!
