Visio Shape Data and Data Graphics

Using a family tree diagram as an example, I import an excel spreadsheet to automatically apply shape data to people (i.e. shapes) in the tree. I then create a data graphic to flag whether a person is living or deceased.

I really wish they develop Visio more. It has real potential for costing applications, but I have to rely on Excel which is not really a visual calculation tool.

Could you see any changes within the linked excel spreadsheet if you manually replace the information within the shape data window in visio? I hope it makes sense
