Review of the 2023 Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 gaming laptop. It comes with an Intel I7-13700H CPU and a NVIDIA RTX 4060 GPU. Not much has changed in terms of the design but Lenovo did remove some of its features making this laptop a little less "pro". Watch for the full review!

Legion Pro 5i is still a nice laptop but it just doesn't feel as pro as it used to. What do you guys think? Also, if you enjoyed the video feel free to like and subscribe! Thanks for watching

FYI - they didn’t remove the ability to change the thermal profiles. It’s a known bug that I experienced with my Legion Pro 5 (2023 RTX 4070) model. All I needed to do was uninstall the vantage software and reinstall from the Microsoft store. - Then everything came right back and I could change the thermal profiles (Silent, Balanced, Turbo, Etc…) from inside the vantage software.

I like this year's design. Very minimalistic, very simple, I like my gaming laptop to have the look of an ultrabook without its screaming "gaming laptop" when I take it outside. My previous laptop was Maingear Vector Pro 2, which is also a laptop with a very sleek and minimalistic design

This model is a beast at its price🔥.
Just waiting to launch it in my country. Dont know why people are unnecessarily hating the Rtx 4070. Legion pro 5i 2023 is the best in its range. Its perfect for gaming as well as work.

It feels a little bit like the best thing about this year's laptops are the discounts for last year's models 😅

The 2022 Legion 5 Pro 3070 R7-6800h and the 2023 Legion Pro 5i 4070 i7-13700hx are very similarly priced in Malaysia. Infact, the 2023 Pro 5i is actually a tiny bit cheaper if you stick with the white keyboard backlight.

You also get a monitor, backpack, mouse and headset for only a dollar each.

the pref graphs around the end of the video were not distinguishing the 2022 and 2023 models accordingly so your commentary was the only guide for that part

Thank you for your honesty in this (and previous) reviews. It's becoming a rare thing on YouTube, with a lot of 'reviews' being thinly veiled advertisements!

Good to see the temps are better, not perfect, than before. More companies should focus on dealing with this.
Overall good laptop, though the omission of TB4 is just stupid.
Thanks for the video.

btw, a couple of mistake in the graphics with the year of release. :) It happens. :)

edit: spelling

Definitely worth it when you compare with other products like MSI, ASUS

Another great, honest review --- I always look forward to them.

Was waiting for your video on this Matthew!

EDIT:
The omission of Thunderbolt 4 is a bummer. Literally one of the reason, beside Quick Sync, people pay extra for an Intel model is because of the TB port.

I got the 2022 5i pro with rtx 3070 ti about 6 months ago on sale for $1000 off including my student discount! After seeing how the rtx 4070 performs and the downgrades of the 2023 model I’m very happy with my decision 😁

The only thing that stinks is the limited 8gb vram on a few games but overall I’m not that disappointed if I need to lower setting just a tad or turning off ray tracing.

Where I live, it seems to be the cheapest rtx 4070 laptop (yet) and it's still 2000€. At least you're getting a good chassis, full 140W tgp and a nice 500 nits display (at 240hz, brighter than the one reviewed in the video)

I wanted to go for the 4060 variant before later ended up buying last year's 3060 one 😄

Hey Matt, have you compared the 3070 vs 4070 laptop GPUs?

Thanks @matthew for the review, you've mentioned very quick something about USB charger when talking about the power supply dimension, but I would like to be sure on this point. The back usb-C port can be used to charge and power the laptop ( I know it will not be enough to run on full load, but I would like to know if I can use it to charge the laptop during working day, where we have a one monitor with usb-c and 90W power output, so with one cable I'll be able to work for all day under low power workload, like email and internet browsing.

I can see what you're coming from. If I had to choose from legion 5 or Pro, I would choose the regular version because there's no much difference in performance, design and features. so much I would buy a previous one from 2021 to save it from landfill.

7:51 both models were mentioned as 2023

At this point it makes more sense to call the legion pro 5 the legion, and the legion pro 7 the legion pro. In terms of ports and features, the legion pro 7 just looks likes a better version of the legion pro 5 but there aren't many differences except for the CPU/GPU, RGB and thunderbolt
