I was an OR tech for years and amputations are always hard for everyone in the room because it's a horrific sight and a completely unnatural act on another human. I can't imagine doing it on the kitchen table with no anesthesia or way to monitor vitals, let alone it being your own child. I know war isn't fair, but hospitals and civilians homes should be off-limits.
