Any ev maker can pack more batteries into a car for more range. That shouldn't be the goal. The goal should be to find how to get more efficient batteries and more compact batteries giving more range in the same blueprint. I also believe faster charging times is more important. I think a sweet spot range is 350 - 400 miles

Longer range means fewer stops in between, more charging stalls for others, way to go!

The Biggest Benefit of a 600 mile range EV is people that live in apartments etc that can't charge every night. 600 mile+ range would make it easier for them to deal without charging every day.

I truly hope Tesla starts making electric boats for freshwater lakes. Id love to have a solar roof on top of my boathouse to help charge it. So much oil & gas go into these lakes from there ice counterparts.

I would say 400-500 mile range is good. 600 is a bit over kill, most gasoline vehicles are around 300-400ish, a hybrid maybe 500ish.

Yea they fill up faster but hopefully in the near future there’s a safe way for charging to be quick and efficient. It definitely has improved a lot since 10 years ago to be fair.

Yes we need the range. Most people do not work in Tech. When you are using a pickup in Construction or driving to places in Texas or Georgia, jobs are spaced out. I sometimes travel hour to two hours one way to work even with my Pathfinder, I need the range!

Yes, in the winter you need a larger battery.

Since you call out Ford in your title, where is the dialog on Ford in the video?

Possibly another disadvantage of shooting for unnecessary higher range is that once EVs are more common, people will start to realize how convenient charging overnight is and how little they actually need the extra range because of that. Then people will be less inclined to pay the extra money for the extra range they'll rarely use, instead opting for a little extra (although theoretically disproportionately less) charging time in those rare occasions.

The market would then be "flooded" with expensive EVs with unnecessarily large range (though thankfully it seems most companies aren't going that route due to the battery shortage).

The fact that you can charge overnight and don't have to go to a dedicated store to charge your car changes the dynamic so range isn't as important.

Just had a quick check for deliveries of Tesla in Australia. No decrease in times as yet. The web site still shows a time frame of between Feb-May 2023. One exception being MY performance which is April-June 2023.

Really nice update Ryan, your channel is one of the easiest news updates etc to listen to and well put together.

Got my FSD with this. YAY, It does feel a bit clunky, accelerates and slows very aggressive. Where is the button to "send a clip" to Tesla for FSD behaving badly?

We absolutely need a 600 mile Tesla! Right now we treat an EV like a phone— you get used to charging it every night. For many people that live in a city in condos or townhouses, home charging is not feasible. Taking multiple short-term trips for the work week without charging would open the door for so many people.

Definitely need 1000kms range, up in Canada, the cold weather will already cost ~20% battery power and i regularly travel distances of 700kms with only 1 stop in the middle, last thing i want is competing for a charger. The range is one thing i wont compromise

My husband's Y has the beta but my 3 does not. So far we are not a fan of FSD. For some reason it has a hard time registering that we are LOOKING at the road. The camera in the car is having a super hard time detecting it.

Ford does NOT have to keep up with Tesla. Tesla is in a league of their own. Ford just needs to keep making the transition, which they are working on, and millions of Ford brand loyalists will buy their EVs over the next 5+ years. The Ford Lightning, and Mach-e have a lot of happy buyers. The Ford F150 Hybrid also has a lot of happy owners. Sure, will Ford lose some current owners to Tesla, yep. Will Ford lose some markets hare to Tesla, yep. BUT Ford could claw some market share from Chevy or Dodge or Nissan, etc. Are they behind Tesla? Yep. But they are running a race against themselves and other OEMs, not Tesla.

Once charging speeds are in the 15 minute range, ranges over 350-400 miles are detrimental due to added weight and cost with no real benefits. You are going to stop for food and a bathroom.

On range, please note, winter eats 30% of a battery. Pls subtract that from the total.

Just got the update to FSD beta. It is AMAZING! Incredible as I drove 1080 km yesterday. SO EASY TO DO THIS DISTANCE!!! 🤯 Just brilliant.
