DIY Hexagon Coasters | Oak Wood Coasters

in today's video I made some hexagon drinks coasters from reclaimed oak flooring i firstly thickness the flooring to roughly 9mm thick then drew around my template which I made then I took them over to my bandsaw and cut as close to the lines as I could after this I then went on to my disc sander and sanded right up to the line on all coasters after this I face sanded with 120grit paper and then hand sanded the edges. after that, I wiped the coaster with methylated spirits to remove dust and grease then let them soak in a bath of boiled linseed oil for 5 mins then wiped any excess oil away after leaving another 5 mins I wiped them down again and applied 2 coats of clear wax to help further protect them. then I got some PVA wood glue and coated the underside of the coaster and applied some black felt to finish the coaster off if you enjoyed my video please like, subscribe, and share thanks for watching

Good work my friend. I’ve never made coasters before...my wife wishes I would, but that felt is a great idea. Thanks Warren!

Great gift for someone, and we really like how you soaked the coasters in the linseed oil before applying the wax. They came out great! Cheers!

Brilliant! I used a load of oak floor board off cuts to make some recently, mine were square, and I used a round over bit on my router on the edges.

Those came out great.
Might have to give that a go as I found some flooring, no where near as much as you did though !

Great video. Another idea you could try is get a dry branch of the appropriate diameter and slice it off on the bandsaw . In the meantime keep up the good work. Cheers John.

I think you can also use flooring samples. I’m going to give this a try! Thanks!

Brilliant! Great idea - looks super. I recently made some of those shapes, and I find it hard to get consistency on all edges. Yours looks fantastic. Is that parkside disc sander working well? I was close buying one, but was afraid it might be too small, but it seems very functional.
