Thank you for sharing. As far as the bark coming off, after they’re glued and finished like you showed, some epoxy resin will probably help so that no more bark comes off later

I saved the tree limbs from yesterday's tree trimming. I started to slice them today because that 12" log would take forever to dry. Moist wood is difficult to cut. I found the best way to handsaw it was to use a simple miter box, the cheapest one. I used a hacksaw for metal at 24 tpi. It was much easier to use this blade to cut moist wood as compared with the saw that came with the miter box (push saw) or a pull saw. The miter box helped to stabilize the wood from getting away and made for positioning the wood much easier. I cut 3 wet coasters today. I'm not strong, being <110#, female, and 60 years old. Try this method.

Nice! I tried the same thing a while ago but the wood cracked after it was finished because the branch looked dry but obviously wasn't quite dry enough. I did the project over but this time before I sliced the branch I put it in the oven on a low temp for about 4 hrs. Dont remember the temp but it was just below 212F, poor mans wood kiln, just do it when the wife's not home. Came out perfect with no cracks. Something to think about.

my son and I cut down a bunch of volunteer  trees in  the  yard, and this is what I was thinking  about making for Christmas presents.  I don't have a table saw, just a chain saw, hack saw, and a skill  saw. My problem so far has been  getting  them flat, and not  thicker on one side

I really appreciate this content because I've been looking for a way how to do it without a bunch of fancy power tools right now I have some fast drying polyurethane and I'm using a brush but I'm wondering how long should I let the Polyurethane dry for I don't have a spray can

Recently had an ice storm where many branches came down. So now I have plenty of wood to try making coasters with.
