Just want to add to this as a ds2 user myself . The ds2 becomes a different pre amp when you change the valves/tubes . The ones it comes pre fitted with are OK but fairly low end in quality compared to what you can buy without spending a fortune. I currently use a matched pair of gold lions which completely gave a different sound stage and superior tone . So straight out the box the ds2 sounds sweet . Put a good quality matched pair of tubes/valves in and its another level . 👍🏾

It all depends on the settings selected on the DS2. In addition, by replacing the tubes of the Pro-Ject, and adding an external power supply, it can go very, very far! To this day it is the best preamp I have owned (and I have had lots of them and even prephonos costing several thousand euros).

Rega sounds much more musical without a doubt

The Project is better on MJ’s vocals, the Rega has better instrument separation and a little more dynamic. UB40 the vocals on the Project are a bit harsh/sibilant at times, Rega is much more refined on this song. Rega is more impressive then I would have thought considering the Project is more expensive.

Not much in it, the pro-ject costs more than 3 times the price of the rega in the uk, so i would choose the rega.

For me, the Project wins this battle. Much better midrange.
