Is Batman Really Dead In Gotham Knights?

The Batman is one of the most well-recognized superheroes of all time, and the character has no shortage of appearances in a variety of entertainment mediums - including but not limited to video games. Easily the best rendition of Gotham’s Dark Knight in video game form has to be the Arkham series - and the upcoming Gotham Knights from developer WB Montreal looks to be a natural step forward for the larger universe of Batman games. Gotham Knights is ditching its focus on the beloved bat, and instead placing the limelight on the extended Bat family which includes Batgirl, Catwoman, Robin, and Red Hood. While that’s a really novel concept in enough of itself, it comes with a massive catch - that Batman is long dead.

You see, Gotham Knights is based around the premise that Batman has died, and the extended Bat family has united in an effort to carry on the legacy of Bruce Wayne as they face the villainous faction that is the Court of Owls. But that interesting plot premise gives rise to more questions than answers, and to that end - we can’t help but ask, Is Batman really dead in Gotham Knights?

Having batman be dead all through the game makes sense. But I feel like a dlc following batman before the gotham knights story is a possibility. It could even end with him making that video the knights watch in the trailer, right b4 fighting an army of talons in the cave/mansion. If your gonna kill him off, we gotta see/play through that event.

Hopefully Batman is an unlockable character to play the game through after completing the game with all four characters. That would be cool.

honestly it's most likely a batman pretending to be dead to infiltrate the court of owls from the inside which he has done a few times in the past.

it WOULD be cool if in endgame you can play as batman as well

I don't see batman being dead my best guess he's probably capture by the court of owls.

I think he’s alive and we will get to play as him later on in the game

The Court of Owls probably made him a Talon and you eventually rescue him

not having Batman in the game would a really dumb idea. especially with the recently released Batman movie. why would WB drop the ball like that?

Well considering the way they have him "die" is something Batman can get out of (they have Wayne manor blow up with him alone inside this was confirmed back in dc fandome 2021s newspaper sent to certain gamers) considering this Batman is also a Justice League member and has been active for over 10 years he's likey been through worse than this and is likely either watching from the shadows or in the courts labyrinth without his utility belt and has been there at this point for over a week by the time he's likely found

I didn’t think he was dead in Arkham Knight and I don’t think he’s dead here. Still waiting for the Pattinson suit to be put in Arkham Knight or in a remastered version of it and another ArkhamVerse game with us playing as Batman and/or one of the Bat Family members from the ArkhamVerse including Red Hood.

It's more likely a third act reveal that everyone in the bat family will act shocked to find out and everyone playing the game wouldn't be surprised.

I hope if he is alive just missing/brainwashed/captive or something you get him post game with a new Robin, Damian.Tim could shift to Red Robin. If he is dead still would be cool to see Grayson shift to Batman and Damian becoming his new Robin (kinda like in the Batman reborn run) with Tim again becoming Red Robin post game

first i have to say this is shaping up to be the nightwing game i've always wanted. the court actually has more relevance to nightwing than batman because of nightwing's past and family history.

second my fan theory until i play the game is what happened was batman was attacked by the court's talons during their opening gambit to take control and the cave was destroyed in the process. batman was killed....but i think he'll be converted into a talon and be the game's final boss. you have to save him and reverse the process to get him back to normal. maybe through talia with some lazarus pits type stuff. that could also introduce damian as a sequel character.

They should make a Batman short that is like the Santa clause where he falls off a roof a guy sees it puts on the suit and becomes the next Batman boom batmagic

It kinda reminds me of the animated movie batman vs Robin that involves the court of owls. Killing batman would be crazy but the court brainwashing him and using him as talon would make more sense since the bat family could save him and leave options open in the future. But who knows

I don't really believe that he is DEAD, dead lol I think what's going to happen is that he has been abducted and brainwashed by the Court and he will be the main Talon we have to defeat to bring him back to the "light" so to speak. By the end of the story we will find him and bring him back to the Belfry and probably if they have a story DLC we will play as him maybe in some sort of exposition or "prequel" to show how he was abducted and what he was investigating before he got captured. If you remember the early marketing for the game last year, the slogan was "Capture the Knight" so they will probably use that for a DLC. WB Montreal is the same studio that told us Black Mask was the main villain in Arkham Origins the entire marketing campaign and that Joker wasn't in the game and it turned out Joker was the one all along.
