Jon, Arya, Tyrion love triangle sounds like the most unhinged AO3 shit.

The story ends???
That is wildly different...

The Sansa storyline kinda makes sense, since George was inspired by the Wars of the Roses and that's pretty much what happened to Elizabeth of York

Jaime after killing everyone in line to the throne: "I guess people calling me Kingslayer got to my head a bit"

That Sansa/Joffery plotline honestly sounds really interesting! "The human heart in conflict with itselt" 'n all that. Definitely better than S7-8

Jon x Arya feels just so wrong...not to mention Tyrion who is what in his late 20's and Arya early tens....

What I love about Jon and Arya's relationship is how pure it is how much of a good brother Jon is to arya. So glad G.R.R. Martin didn't go with the original outline.

He read through his original outline and thought: "Hm, maybe there is such a thing as too much incest"

GRRM just *had* to get some incest into the books one way or another, didn't he?

I'm still happy that this never happened

Sansa's storyline would make sense with her being young naive and enamored and then creating a life for herself (no matter how awful the husband is, many women would stick to that no matter what) and then having the conflict of choosing between Starks and her new family.

That is interesting that the first draft was as early 1993.

I’m confident George could’ve pulled some of this stuff off but some of those pairings are a little sus, and my boy Jamie sounds like he was being written in Season 8.

Sansa would totally do that. You can tell in the early chapters/seasons it was set up for her to betray her house

This is actually a perfect example of why George R.R Martin is such a great writer and, more importantly, why it’s taking so long for him to finish writing Winds of Winter.

George R.R Martin has said that there are two types of writers: The ’architect’, who has every single part of the story - including it’s various different characters development - planned out from the very begining, and the ’gardener’, who has the most important parts of the story planned out, but not the rest of it, such as it’s characters and secondary plotlines. Because of this, the ’gardener’ prefers to write their characters in a more natural way, using new ideas and interpretations about their characters that come to them in the moment rather than entirely following along a preexisting plan.

George R.R Martin has described himself as being more of the ’gardener’ type of writer. That is why he’s so good at making plot twists, such as the Purple Wedding, because he is capable of coming up with them on the spot and seamlessly write them into the story at the time he decides that it needs to take place. It is also why his countless characters are so intricate and well made; because the way he writes them allows him to develop them in a way that makes them grow on their own, almost similar to how real people develop in real life. He is not afraid to change his plans for them, though not TOO drastically, which makes their development unpredictable yet suitable for their character.

That’s why he completely changed this original plan in favor of what we have now. As he wrote these characters, his own interpretation and perception of them changed and he changed his plans to better suit his new interpretation of them.

Whilst George R.R Martin’s writing is obviously his greatest strength, it is sadly also his greatest weakness. Because of his tendency to change his plans to better suit the development of the story, it greatly increases the amount of time he spends writing the story. It also does not help that Winds of Winter will be at least three times longer than any other book he’s ever written, with it being made up of at least 1 500 pages. And, I think one of the biggest reasons it is taking so long is because of just how badly the final two seasons of the TV series flopped.
George R.R Martin has said that his ending in the books will be similar to the TV show, but different. I think that, with how badly the show ended, it has caused George to be extra cautious in how he writes his characters, rewriting chapter after chapter countless times because he wants to be absolutely sure he gets the ending right, to fix what the show did. This is actually a bad thing for him, because his writing style practically demands that he take risks and he might not be willing to take such risks when the biggest reason the show failed is because D&D took TOO many risks.

I believe these factors are what is causing the countless delays. However, I know George R.R Martin. Whatever he does with these characters, I’m certain that it will fit with their character development. But, most importantly, I am absolutely certain that the ending in the books will be 100% better than the ending in the show.

I think I read that in the drafts grrm originally wanted to have the targs have fire powers/fire bending in replacement to dragons, but when his friend read the story and went "you need to add dragon, the story wont make sense without it"

This makes sense since it seems more War of the Roses-esque – the original conflict that the Stark-Lannister war was based on.

Arya and Jon being less incestuous than what we ended up with in Jon and Dany’s relationship says a lot!!!
