Programmer explains if there is a difference between a software developer and a software engineer?
What does the internet say? What do I think based on my experience as a software developer?

Self taught & boot campers: There's no difference.
Univ router: There's a big difference.

When you code buttons and apis you are a developer. When you build complex ecosystems using your own patents, you are an engineer .

Yep. Semantics. In my experience, the people who are the most convinced this is more than semantics are non-devs and juniors (who likely got that impression from non-devs). As for Forbes & Indeed being similar, Indeed was probably either the source of the Forbes definition or they're both using the same source.

No difference at all. It is largely down to culture in company. Unfortunately managers and consultants have created a perception of difference. So now lI use engineer because it automatically gets more respect.

Who is giving these titles? Is it really from the I.T. field? Or are these titles coming from someone outside of I.T.? I don't know? When I talk to people in the industry they don't place importance in the title of engineer or developer. They are viewed the same. The only time I tend to hear common titles is lead, junior or even architect. But Developer and Engineer, hmm I don't think so.
