Professional Female Triathlon Rules Are More Strict Than You Could Ever Imagine.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Triathletes must follow some pretty strict rules in order to compete. Not only does a competitor have to stay strong and in shape, they must also know and follow all of the rules, written and unwritten. Most of these rules are in place to ensure the safety of the participants in triathlons. Some of these rules are just common sense and decent behavior. And some of these rules are exclusive to the pros who know everything it takes to win a race.

There are a couple of controversial rules that are causing a stir in the triathlon and Olympic athlete world. One such rule states that female competitors cannot have too much natural testosterone in their bodies. If they are over a certain limit, they are expected to lower their levels with medication or even surgery. Two female British triathletes, Jessica Learmonth and Georgia Taylor-Brown, were disqualified for crossing the finish line while holding hands at the 2019 World Triathlon Olympic Qualification Event. It caused quite a controversy among fans who did not think they should have been disqualified. There are other less controversial rules, such as no dunking, proper helmet use, no obstructing, no littering, and no drafting. These rules are in place to ensure fairness and safety for the competitors. Like them or not, all triathletes are subject to these rules when competing in the sport. Here are the strict rules female professional triathletes have to follow.

Margaret Wambui isn't a triathlete by the way. She is a Track and Field athlete that specialized in the 800m, she probably hasn't done a triathlon in her whole life.

“Strict” rules: don’t shove someone into the water during the swim, don’t get in someone ones way or purposefully block them

Oh my god! So strict, I actually can’t believe it!!

They finish the race together, looking forward to representing there country at the olympics. Hold hands for 2 secs and are DQ'ed?? Must have been officials that never have done triathlons or any sports for that matter at a high level. Seriously looking for a reason to DQ them? Im pretty sure if I was to scour the footage I would find a lot of violations they missed. Dumb.

These rules apply to both male and female triathletes. While you have some rules correct many are stereotyped without proper explanation. I don’t mean to be harsh in any way at all but triathlon is a very particular sport with particular sets of rules to follow. Otherwise am very glad to see the sport being featured!!

That drafting rule does not apply to Pro Triathletes. It was done away with many years ago as it was too difficult to police in high numbers racing of tight courses. Still applies to non Pro races though.

While I love that triathlon has featured there is Unfortunately a lot of incorrect information in this video. Additionally, if the title says it’s about females, why are you referring to athletes as “he” or “him” throughout parts of this?

There was only one gender specific rule..?

They probably didn’t even know there was a rule about handholding so why should they be disqualified for it ???

literally the whole swim thing isn’t strict... it’s for safety reasons... for example on mine and every other swim team, you wouldn’t dunk someone or try to block them... because it’s a safety HAZARD... coach sees when someone’s about to get kicked...

Coming from a triathlete we early use lube the only thing we use from is baking spray on the outside of wetsuits and we use body glide to prevent chafing

Rules: no unsportsmanlike behavior
Also rules: can’t hold hands when you’re happy

This video is full of misinformation. Research should have been done... I feel bad for the channel.

Absolutely not! Nobody should be disqualified because they held hands at the finish line 🏁 !! Also by no means should any person be unable to participate because of the way their body is “naturally forming a lot of testosterone “ and how dare they even suggest the ridiculous things they have offered as “solutions” for these specific athletes! I am outraged by this the most!!!🤬😡🤯 Great 👍🏽 topic.

Ok I'm one for " friendly competition " but the getting disqualified for their hand holding was a bit much. Just saying.

For Elite, U23, Junior and Youth draft-legal competitions, we are allowed to draft. There are some age group competitions allowing drafting as well. There are some regulations to clip-ons depending on the competition too.
