I like how Travis points out that, yes, getting your musical skills together is important, but what's more important are your people skills, mindset, and professionalism. Great vid!!!

ABSOLUTELY agree about "Be Humble".
I was fortunate enough to have worked with some of the top notch classical, orchestral musicians in America. They were so down to earth and HUMBLE as well.

One thing I have to work on personally is my attitude no matter how I'm feeling or who I'm working with. Thanks for the reminder!
Also, pro studio musicians in L.A. They say if you're 15 minutes early, you're late.

Canadian minister & drummer here not a bass player but find your videos very helpful and informative. As a musician I value your insight and thoughts. Definitely worth my time following your social media. Apostolic music/musicians matter. God Bless.

The people skills is the difficult part for me. Playing is relatively easy. Also, look the part; be prepared and well rehearsed and if in church, look immaculate. Be early, have reliable gear. Always sound good. Play 110% all the time because you never know who is watching. And lastly, specialize- I play the fretless bass almost exclusively; when people hear what it can do, they don’t want the fretted anymore. It makes me stand out and be memorable

I would love to hear your story sometime.

Another thing is I was told: "The practice room is where you learn your part. Rehearsals are where you learn other people's parts"

I also encountered a gig where there was no time for rehearsal, and I had to sight-sing this Renaissance choral piece with zero accompaniment! It was pretty scary but I managed to nail most notes, lol.

Hi Travis. My name is Fabrice. One point very important to me you talked about learning very fast new song during reheasal.Did it ever happen to you first time to see a song in scores then you were lost?It happened to me, but i went back home and i made practise for it, seconf reheasal i played well and concert i played very well.My question is:Am i wrong to learn a song after reheasal or i suppose to read any song and i play very well at first time? Thanks

Travis, shouldn't point number 5 be point number 1? If you don't know your music the other points mean nothing.
